Story

The Hawkins Theatre - Papakura opened on the 14th July 1990 by Governor General Paul Reeves, and was an exciting step for the community as the first purpose-built facility for the arts in the District. The facility won commendation for its design in the 1990 NZIA awards, with the jury saying that while the Italianate form and size of the structure were large, the building successfully defined the public importance of the facility and its purpose.

Great little gem of a place. The aircon lets it down a bit, was decent then seemed to have turned off halfway during our show. Otherwise a great venue with lots of parking.
The theare feels spacious. The seats appear higher easier for older folk, though firm and comfortable. It is well aired by effective air-conditioning.

Great place to visit. Plenty of car parks. Near a park can walk around and relax.
Great theatre - but really difficult if you have someone in a wheelchair. They are revamping the seats next year - maybe they can make the top row much deeper so if you put a chair in the top row so people can passed without holding up the whole theatre and not need to climb over the chair. Also would be good if they could give room to move the chair without it almost tipping down the stairs. Just as important - please fix the disabled toilets - 3 doors to get through that 1 opens the wrong way for a chair and are not quite wide enough - add the congestion of a theatre - it is a complete nightmare. Just need a seperate disable toilet - can be unissex - that means you do not need to go into either toilet with room to roll straight in. Auckland city - If you want an see a a great disabled toilet - just look at the one at the Botanical Gardens in Manurewa. It makes a huge difference if you trying to get disabled people out in the community. Disabled parking and access to the building is good.
Have been here for my daughters dance production, very nice place, lots of parking and has alot of access aswell. Very tidy.
5 star entertainment centre, proud in Papakura
Venue for dance competition. Plenty of parking. Plenty of seating. Nice big stage. Decent size lobby with seating and had some toasted cheese sandwiches and other basic food and drinks facility available for the event too.
