Story

Hawera Playcentre is a parent led Early Childhood Education service for children aged 0-6years. We are situated at 89 Fairfield Road, Hawera next to Ramanui school.

Hawera Playcentre is part of the New Zealand Playcentre Federation. Playcentre is a family organization where:

We empower adult and children to work, play, learn and grow together.

We honor Te Tiriti O Waitangi and celebrated people's uniqueness.

We value and affirm parents as the first and best educators of their children so the Whanau are strengthened and communities enriched.

We welcome you all to come and join our centre to learn and play alongside your children. Mums, Dads, Grandparent's, caregivers all welcome.

Taranaki Playcentre Association Philosophy Statement

Taranaki Playcentre Association believes.............

• That Playcentre is run Co-operatively by member whanau/families which provide a positive Early Childhood Education option and values whanau/parents/caregivers as the first and best educators of their children and encouraged and supported in this role.

•In providing a safe and nurturing environment, with a minimum ratio of one adult to three children, where the emphasis is on fun, learning and choice, and enhancing adult/child interactions.

•In making available a minimum of 16 curriculum areas of play that encompass the principles of Te Whaariki and provides a stimulating environment which is physically, emotionally and culturally safe for all who attend.

•That all Playcentres should be available and accessible to whanau/families with children of mixed ages (birth to 6 Years) creating benefits of nurturing, role modelling, social interactions and a family atmosphere.

•In Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa/New Zealand and has an on going commitment to bi-culturalism.

•In providing a quality, New Zealand recognized, adult training program that will strengthen self-esteem, improve parenting skills and enhance the learning environment.

•In Emergent Leadership where whanau/parents/caregivers are empowered to their personal growth as well as encouraged and supported to develop new skills.
