We stopped in for a classic wine tasting and had such an incredible experience. Maria was our guide and she was so informative and pleasant to speak with. We ended up buying a delicious white bottle and then she gave us a bunch of recommendations for our NZ stay. She was an absolute treasure, and we’re so happy we stopped in! We will be back!
My mother and I were blown away by our visit to Hans Herzog. We booked a tour of the vineyard and a tasting in June, 2023, and it was by far the highlight of our trip to the South island. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable, including Hans being active working in the vineyard while we were on the estate. The tasting room is very clean with the views being second to none. We left with bottles of the best wine we had on our entire wine trip and will absolutely be ordering more when we return to the states. 100% recommend!
Lovely personal vineyard. We had booked but arrived an hour early and they managed to accommodate us, saving us from a rainstorm. Great knowledge about the wines and also very impressive the way the staff switched effortless between English and German while serving.
Amazing wines and setting let down by a lacklustre tasting experience. We booked in for a wine tasting experience and when greeted we were given the option of either a $25pp tasting or $45pp wine 'flight' tasting. We opted for the wine flight and selected 'The Spirit Journey' which was $90pp 75ml pours so total $180 for my partner and I to taste 4 wines each. 'The Spirit Journey' blurb reads "This flight will take you on a journey through our iconic and timeless Bordeaux blends" so we were looking forward to the experience. After watching the video about the Herzogs and the vineyard, we sat outside on the verandah and were given the first of the 4 wines with a very brief description from the server who then went back to get the remaining 3 wines. Once she delivered the remaining 3 wines we didn't see her again until we had finished them all for around 30 minutes we were left outside to drink through all our 'flights' on our self-propelled 'journey' tasting experience. About 10 minutes after we arrived another group turned up so perhaps the server was busy with them at the counter, but for a $180 tasting I expected to at least be told something about each wine as we tasted them something that every other tasting I have done at other wineries have done, which are only around $10pp. Instead, we were essentially given 4 tasters and left to drink through them all outside by ourselves. Luckily the wine was superb, the gardens beautiful, but unfortunately the pleasant taste of the wine was followed by the bitter taste of an extremely poor 'flight' experience. We purchased 4 bottles of wine at the conclusion of our tasting including a bottle that was part of the flight but I'd rather have spent the $180 on another bottle or 2. What was meant to be the highlight of our trip to Blenheim turned into a sad disappointment. Here's hoping the memory of this poor experience does not taint my future enjoyment of the otherwise impeccable wine that Hans works so hard to produce.
Lovely experience in the cottage and great service from Maria, arranging a special birthday cake that was waiting for us as we checked into the cottage.Rooms: 5/5
What a wonderful experience: outstanding wine made with love and passion in a beautiful winery. Thank you so much to Therese and Hans being the best hosts!
Did a tasting and it took for ever. Slow service, seem to be a bit stressed switch handling a few people at the same time. The vine’s taste alright, need to improve the service.
A wonderful 2 nights in the most delightful "Rose Cottage", an idyllic setting amongst the vines, a short walk from the winery and family home, we enjoyed a wonderful wine tasting set in the garden in late afternoon with dappled sun shining through, little fantails hopping from tree to tree, like being in a Disney movie! The cottage itself was immaculate with many antique and original features, and the rooms were serviced beautifully, indeed we enjoyed a "Vineyard Platter" on our deck one evening and of course the wine. Super location, we loved it!!
Cottage is located in an amazing place, right in the vineyards. Great wine tasting & bike tour in the area.Rooms: 5/5
Absolutely exquisite! This cottage is absolutely stunning. Would highly recommend, so much character and finesse, from all the little details high end linen, bath robes, coffee, arrange of tea, fresh flowers. Beautiful interior design. The team at Herzog were so friendly and welcoming. We made the most of using the bikes they had on offer to pop around to the local vineyards. Highly recommend the breakfast option, delicious! We hope to return in the near future!
