The biggest rice ball I have ever seen in the South Island. And it’s very very yummy ...

A quaint Japanese family restaurant seating at most 20 in the front located a block away from the steepest street in the world in Dunedin. The food is fresh, salmon sashimi was perfect - very generous portion cut nicely for 2-4 to share. We also had eel, avocado sushi, salmon sushi and noodles - everything tasty and the roles done perfectly with rice a bit warm melting in your mouth. It was the most satisfying meal we had in Dunedin. They also serve toasted rice green tea - a perfect accompaniment. I would eat there again.

Delicious Japanese food at a reasonable price. The salmon sashimi was really fresh. Enjoyed the bento boxes as well, they were large portion and good value for money.
Great amount of food for your money! Beautifully presented, even as a take away my seafood udon was perfect! The staff are wonderful!
The only truly authentic Japanese restaurant in Dunedin. It may be a little out of the way from downtown but the trip is worth it. The bento portions are generous and they may be the only place around who can make Japanese rice correctly. I’ve tried most of the menu and have never had a bad dish. The katsu is the best I’ve had in years. The beef tataki alone is a reason to travel here. Forget the hype about downtown and head to the northeast valley for one of the best hidden gems in the city.
