The place is good. Although it is far from the town, you can enjoy some beautiful views and if you plan to do Roys Peak you are 5 minutes away by car.nThe cabins are cozy and have good heating. although they didn't give us towels.nThe bathrooms and kitchen are good, but they are not equipped, there are no cooking utensils. The bathrooms are neat, they charge you 1 dollar for a shower for 6 minutes of hot water. The machines work poorly and you can end up swallowing the coin. Hygiene is regular. Lack. Lots of staff, poor hygiene, dirty tables, floor with crumbs.nAnyway. The place, it is large and very picturesque.
Amazing views of the lake. Was there in winter and appreciated that there was warm tap water and heating in the toilet though you had to pay for warm/hot shower. We cooked in the kitchen too and it was decent. Also really convenient if you’re hiking Roy’s Peak - just a few minutes’ drive away!
The location was stunning, close enough to Wanaka and sites. Facilities were clean and well cared for. My biggest complaint is that they don’t offer unlimited wifi, a place that has a lot of international travelers I see no reason why they couldn’t provide unlimited wifi. 500 mb is enough to last maybe 30 minutes, which is very inconvenient if that’s your only time to catch up on things. The connection was also very poor and didn’t load much. I also find that a dollar is pretty steep for a six minute campground shower. Most places I’ve been to are 25-50 cents.
We ended up staying in a 'Historical Cabin,' we were informed that for lighting we'd only be able to use a lamp as the main bulb wasn't in the room although this lived to flicker on and off. Even the light on the outside of the cabin was out of action which made it difficult to return from an evening bathroom run in the cold and dark. There was a small heater which did little to warm up the space and the curtain over the door was of a sheer material meaning that it was easy to see through during the darker hours when we needed a light on.nnThe worst part was on our second day when the power board actually started smoking, which didn't seem very safe to me. A maintenance guy said he'd get us a replacement power board in 10 minutes and informed us that the historical cabins shouldn't be being rented out anymore, that it was just a means for a big company to get more money.nnSo late afternoon we're waiting for the maintenance guy to return, it's already been over an hour, the sun is going down, it's getting dark, it's cold, winter. And we have to try to follow up so that we'll have power in the evening and warmth. We find out that the maintenance guy was actually creating a bonfire by the water front. So unfortunately wasn't very pleased by that.nnWouldn't reccomend unless you have your own self contained vehicle. The stars at night were lovely though.
Had power outage for an hour in the morning during breakfast 8-9am, coin for shower but coins only available at reception which closes at 6pm. Only one big kitchen/shower which can be quite far for a lot of camp sites, you are welcome to drive and park in front of the facility and drive back to your site though. Overall, it’s an average place. Location wise it’s closer to Roy’s Peak than from Wanaka town, but otherwise there isn’t much. I’d recommend staying closer to Wanaka.
