This is a great little zoo to visit with young kids. It looks small on a map but be warned that there is a lot of undulation so it actually is a decent walk. It had a surprisingly diverse range of animals, which the kids loved, and our favourite part were the little entertainment areas for the kids along the walking route - this place was definitely built with kids in mind. The cafe is also definitely worth visiting and very opposite to the usual food you'd expect at a tourist attraction. I'd recommend booking in advance if you plan on coming on a weekend as you can visit the zoo, have lunch, then re enter the zoo and continue your day.
Fabulous afternoon spent with the children wandering around looking at all the wonderful animals. Love all the tables and chairs dotted all around the zoo as well as multiple activity areas to keep the little ones entertained. End the day at the cafe with a ice-cream, cold drink or a delicious coffee while the children have one last burst of energy in the play ground.
This zoo is really nice and big. You can see that animals are well taken care of. They have big space for them selves where they can live and move freely. Highly maintained zoo. I feel safe while visiting the zoo. There are toilets and water station from time to time.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNot sure
Had a great time with the kids. Not too crowded. The animals were surprisingly interactive, especially the monkeys. I put my hand up to the glass and a baby monkey climbed all the way up and put his little hand on mine. The outdoor aviary is a great way to learn about indigenous plant species and spot NZ birds. I've been to a few zoos and this was the most seamless trip I've had. Make sure to bring a water bottle, hat and sunscreen. Snacks if you don't want to buy. It was a great day:
This is overall a nice Zoo experience. It's not too busy which means you get time to take pictures and videos. It's fairly priced and pretty well maintained. However it could do better in terms of the facility and attractions.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Hamilton Zoo is a must do once you are in Hamilton. There are heaps of animals and the fun facts are really interesting. The staff are polite and helpful. They are also very knowledgeable. You can really see how much they love and care for the animals. The zoo closes at 4:30pm. Give yourself at least three hours to go around the place. Two hours is not enough.
Wow this is an amazing Zoo, we'll worth going to. The Kids playground, cafe is a good spot for lunch. They have a great variety of animals and the pathways between animals are friendly for everyone.
Zoo full of animals with a good variety. Very interesting pathways with lots of board walks! Some areas felt somewhat unfinished however it is off season at the moment. To see all the animals the path you ave to take does involve a bit of walking back on self and to areas twice. Very inquisitive and friendly meerkats. Savannah enclosure was nice to see with all the different animals interacting together.
I went on a school trip with my grandson. It has been about 10 years since I've last been, and there have been some awesome renovations done. The entrance has a new cafe which is very modern and they make a great mocca. The carpark is a lot bigger but is very tight to maneuver around. The playground at the entrance has been renovated, and there are much more covered picnic tables to eat at and also more toilets. The toilet facilities around the zoo have also been updated and expanded. As a whole, the new renovations make the zoo a more family-friendly place to visit.
very impressed with the animal enclosures and layout. animals looked well cared for. nice zoo. lovely picnic spots dotted around inside. lovely family day visit
