Story

The North Island's largest Zoo!

Home to over 600 native and exotic animals and set amidst 25ha of lush and tranquil surroundings, Hamilton Zoo is the ideal destination for a memorable day out.

Boasting the largest walk-through aviary in New Zealand dedicated to native birds and plants, take a stroll through and a cheeky kaka may land close by. An experience not to be missed, go behind the scenes on a Face2Face encounter, or catch a 'Meet the Keeper' talk highlighting the characters and personalities of our animals, their feeding and enrichment.

Besides being a tourism and recreation park, Hamilton Zoo is committed to the conservation of animals and the environment by participating in various conservation and research projects, and by contributing to breeding programmes for endangered species.

Had a great time here. Its a great idea to bring your kids here as there are a lot of play areas where they can have fun. This area is also stroller ready for young babies. There are picnic spots across the facility for families who want to have there home cooked meals here. There are also cafes at enterence and an icecream shop near the savanna area. They have a route for bird viewing in the natural enclosed area which was fantastic. All in all a great place to spend some time with kids
It is one of the best places for the kids in Waikato. Easy to get tickets online. This place closes at 1630 and food won't be available from around 1600. It is best to visit this zoo excluding winter. Kids absolutely loved it. Very spacious and plenty of parking as well.
Took my grandkids for the day. It was awesome even had the keepers answer some questions by a 7 yr old who had loads of questions about how different animals needed different care. Very impressive zoo will be going back as the 7yr old has asked that for his birthday he has an animal encounter at feeding time so will be booking that in for August
We enjoyed our visit to the Hamilton Zoo! We took our grandchildren for a birthday. They had a great time. All of the animals were out so they were able to see so many. The only thing that would make it better is if everything connected in a circle instead of having to go one way and return to get to another animal. The playground area was great! The food was good but way to expensive.
The Hamilton Zoo provided my family with an exceptionally enjoyable experience. The zoo was meticulously maintained, and the staff demonstrated utmost professionalism and friendliness. The diverse range of animals on display was truly impressive, catering to visitors of all ages and interests. Furthermore, the zoo's accessibility features, such as wheelchair ramps and wide pathways, made it an inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities and families with young children. I highly recommend the Hamilton Zoo to anyone seeking an enriching and educational day out.
Great zoo, the tiger cubs and chimpanzee area were absolute highlights! Worth checking out if you're in Hamilton. It's also a good size to wander through a few times, and try to get to exhibits when they are feeding the animals.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Haven't been in a while. Fantastic upgrades. Very good walk for exercise. Family loved it, also the ice cream at the bottom of the Zoo before the walk back to the top.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A must see in Hamilton the Tron while your there or just passing through. I was impressed with the high level of upkeep, a real credit to the staff. A good selection of animals to see. Carparking was great, great view from the top of the new tower in the carpark. Nice cafe at the entrance. An ice cream truck and vending machines for if you get peckish halfway around the main loop. Definitely not as much to see as the Auckland zoo but I loved it none the less.
Hands down, the most amazing zoo ive been to. Made the trip from Auckland and didnt want to leave. Feels more like a nature walk with "exotic" animals dotted along the way. Beautifully spread out and feels like its designed to blend in with nature. Plenty of shade all throughout and plenty of mini playgrounds, rest stops for snacks. Hydration stations available throughout the zoo with FREE water. The staff are cheerfully welcoming and the prices are totally family friendly. Our kids had a great time and made some Wonderful memories
Nice spacious zoo. Give yourselves at least 3 hours for a good sight-seeing walk. We were fortunate the weather is good, so we ended up seeing almost all animals, some sheltering under a shade. I just wished they made the fences better. Most of the poles and fences are blocking the view, but we like how you can be really close to some animals, so I guess that's alright. Zoo is clean, you can see the staff are passionate about what they are doing. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and definitely recommend visiting.
