I stayed for two nights and I was sleeping in a 6 bed dorm. The beds are very comfortable and offer everything you could want from a hostel bed. The showers are ok. Check-in was well organised. I planned on doing some laundry there, but when I saw the washing machines, I changed my mind. The lockers could be more spacious… It can also get a bit crowded there. I did not enjoy the vibe there. So I tried to use the Hostel for sleeping and showering only, which was fine.
Rooms were a good size and we had our own bathroom which was clean. Kitchen is great, lots of space to cook! Room was beside entrance so it did sometimes get a little noisy. Highly advise paying the hostel parking fee where your car gets kept in a secure parking lot. We chanced it and parked on the street just down the road for free Ranolf Street…our car was broken into, don’t make the mistake we did- i’d encourage anyone to pay the small fee for the secure, hostel parking which we have now done!
Amazing!!! I took my whanau, group of 15 of us, we booked 2 dorms for our kids and their kids and a twin room for ourselves. Clean and tidy, kitchen has everything you need to cook a large Kai and the outdoor eating area was large enough for us to sit and eat together. The whanau were impressed as was I. First time staying in a hostel for us. We stayed over night cost us around $550 we lost a key card so we're happy to pay the charge of $30 had carparking in the front and $15 overnight carparking at the rear. Staff were amazing and very helpful. Would recommend this place anytime!!
I stayed in the all-female dorm and the room was a good size. Lockers were provided, the beds were comfortable, and there was useful storage built into each bed. The listing says the room is ensuite, but it isn’t. I would advise wearing shoes into the bathroom and shower.nThe showers were a big downside — over two nights I only experienced about three minutes of hot water, after which it was absolutely freezing. The bathroom also didn’t seem to be cleaned regularly, as the bin was overflowing.nnThe rooms themselves were nice but extremely stuffy, with no proper ventilation other than one window that didn’t open very wide understandably for safety reasons. They should consider installing air conditioning or at least providing fans.nnThere is a main communal chill area and kitchen, and within the dorms there is also a shared common area and kitchen, which was convenient.nnThe location is great — right opposite Kuirau Park and in the heart of the CBD. However, due to the proximity of the park, the sulphur smell is extremely strong. Parking is free outside the hostel from 17:00–09:00, and the hostel also offers on-site parking for $15 NZD per day.
I honestly dont know how this place has SO many positive reviews. I checked in yesterday, February 28th. The bathrooms were filthy. They'll be cleaned tomorrow, I told myself.Well, I just returned from being outside in the sun and heat all day and i need to take a shower. But guess what? The bathrooms look EXACTLY the same. I asked the front desk guy point blank were the bathrooms cleaned today and he said NO. Worse, their own bathroom cleaning chart shows that none of the bathrooms have been cleaned since the 25th of February!!! I've never heard of a hostel not cleaning it's bathrooms for days on end. I will of course be requesting a partial refund as I'm not paying to bathe in filth. Also, the ceilings and walls are paper thin so you hear EVERYTHING. TL; DR AVOID!!!
