First time staying in a hostel. I stayed in a 6 bedroom dorm. I was lucky the weather was not warm so it was comfortable at night, a little cold since one person wanted the window open all night. Beds are private and a good amount of storage room under them. Kitchen and eating area was clean and enjoyable. Free parking 5pm to 9am just outside the hostel which was a bonus.
It was really clean - other than the Rotorua odour and water. But I would have appreciated a free tea bag given it is a hostel this is probably a bit petty haha Very comfy beds. Nice, helpful staff. Also you have to pay $2 for a packet of washing powder which feels a bit much.
I will share my experience I did not have, I do live in Auckland and booked 1 night for a late check in and early check out, I made the mistake when booking online by 1 night and paid $47 nzd. I didn’t realise about my mistake till the day I arrive but it was for 1 night, like I wanted to book from Friday to Saturday as I drove straight after work from Auckland and actually booked from Thursday to Friday. Call the girl which was very friendly to help me but when she spoke with the manager they wanted me to pay again which I think is unfair, obviously I did not stay and just went to another hostel.nnThere are plenty of better places, do not support this manager guy.
The beds were comfortable and had curtains, but the room was way to small for all the people. We had a room with 6 bunk bed, but only 2 could get out of the bed at the same time. There was no room for our backpacks anywhere, it was really to small if you're a backpacker. The kitchen was really good, spacious and lots of cups/plates etc
The good: Facilities are fine and the location is goodnThe bad: The rooms are sweltering with no fan or AC. The bright lights just outside also force you to close the thick curtains, getting rid of your only source of fresh air. We were cooking even with the overnight low of 12C. No hope of any sleep. Save your money and sleep on a park bench instead. Will be more comfortable
