Omg, as an Aussie on holiday with my Kiwi mate I laughed so hard when my mate said he had won gum boot throwing comps. This is a nice town and cool statue. I had a throw at the what I thought were cricket nets.
Quite nice to look at or for a quick photo. Check out the Gumboot Throwing Lane as well when you’re in town!
The landmark of Taihape. Just passing through and no stop. A lot of small town have their unique and interesting landmark. The creative New Zealander!!!

Taihape is really an example of a quintessential NZ town along SH1, known as the 'Gumboot Capital of NZ', you are welcomed to Taihape if heading south it is on your left with a very large corrugated iron gumboot. But there is more to Taihape, there are also some lovely little cafes, great public toilets and a lovely children's park. It is also just a quick trip further south to Flat Hills cafe/campground also on SH1..famous for their fantastic custard slices, but also a great selection of pies, coffee and other sweet treats
