Over the decades this area has been improved and continues to be worked on with many historical displays, memorials, and information panels. Close to the centre of town is a great place to walk up an appetite or walk off a meal. You do need a nice day however, as the weather is right off the ocean or the Alps depending on direction.
I haven't been there for many years. But the ghostly image of a lone crane against the light was moving. I'm still waiting to see the name Māwhera.
Was awesome beautiful place to park up with a view of the mouth and the west coast. Even better that speedway was on and you could view half the track from the top carpark.
Great walk ! Leeds you all the way from town to the sea safe easy area to take the kids on a bike ride along the cycle trail and wharf.
A pity that most of the old warf and the road adjacent looks more or less than a dump. Someone with a pile of money and ideas is needed to create a buzz along the warf.
