Greenpeace New Zealand

About

Greenpeace exists because this fragile Earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs action. It needs you!
https://www.greenpeace.org/new-zealand/

Story

Greenpeace's work is based on a number of key principles. They are reflected in all our campaigns, and they guide whatever we do, wherever we do it.

Personal responsibility and Nonviolence
We take personal responsibility for our actions, and we are committed to nonviolence. These principles are inspired by the Quaker concept of 'bearing witness', which is about taking action based on conscience – personal action based on personal responsibility. We are accountable for our actions, and everyone on a Greenpeace action is trained in nonviolent direct action.

Independence
We ensure our financial independence from political or commercial interests. We do not accept money from either companies or governments. And we mean any money. Individual contributions, together with foundations grants, are the only source of our funding. Our independence gives us the authority we need to effectively tackle power, and make real change happen.

Greenpeace has no permanent friends or foes
In exposing threats to the environment and finding solutions we have no permanent allies or adversaries. If your government or company is willing to change we will work with you to achieve your aims. Dither, backtrack or turn around and we will be back.

What matters isn’t words, but actions, and, as far as we’re concerned, there’s only one standard in this: The environment has to benefit.

Promoting solutions
We seek solutions for, and promote open, informed debate about society's environmental choices. We don’t work to manage environmental problems, we work to eliminate them. That’s why we developed our roadmap to save the seas through the establishment of marine reserves, and an Energy [R]evolution blueprint that points the way to a clean economy. It’s not enough for us to point the finger; we develop, research and promote concrete steps towards a green and peaceful future for all of us.

Mission

We campaign on a variety of issues, centering on the following:
1) Stop climate change
2) Defend our oceans
3) Protect ancient forest
4) Say no to genetic engineering
5) Eliminate toxic chemicals
6) End the nuclear age
7) Encourage sustainable trade and agriculture
8) Demand peace and disarmament

Products

Peace. Justice. Sustainability.

The amount of times i have cancelled this transaction due to me not being able to meet my payment needs, and they’re still taking my money. Every time I ring up to cancel they just beg and make me feel so stink for not donating. I’ll be ringing tomorrow to cancel completely, honestly I have missed out on so much of my own money as they’ve taken the last of my money, made me go into overdraft. It’s actually really frustrating.
I appreciate what they do and wanted to help out. I did not want it to go any further than that as I am not financially stable. Yet tonight I got harassed over call for money. The lady was nice but she took it too far and she knew it. She then just hung up on me clearly disappointed that I did not donate to them. Appreciate what they do but please stop this, completely ruined my relaxing night after work.
Always got time for these guys I'm keen to do my bit & pay when I can. Thanks for your call!! The world needs you, we all do!!
Never explicitly agreed to be contacted by them, yet they added me to all of their mailing lists, txts, and calls. This seems like a textbook violation of the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. I appreciate a lot of the causes being fought for - but the marketing practices are incredibly aggressive, potentially in violation of several acts, and largely give the organisation a poor public image.
I have no doubt that Greenpeace do wonderful work, however the hard sell lady on the phone really turns me off, I am very keen to do my bit and have given as much as I am able over the years. I now will not answer any call from a number I do not recognise as I know it will be Greenpeace. I will continue to give as I can afford but tryng to make people feel guilty for not paying monthly is not the way.
While I don’t agree with the cold calling methods and the way they got the first donation from me, one of your staff was absolutely LOVELY! He was such a sweetheart and definitely deserves some extra holidays haha. Luke; thank you.
Terrible sales person - trying to force me to sign up to $60 a month and give credit card details to them. It's really bad - I support their work but their sales techniques are appalling.
I do support all the work you do, but I don't support the cold calling methods you use to fund raise. There is nothing worse than someone calling you unsolicited to sign you up to a monthly payment that let's be honest you probably got talked into by a pushy person probably getting a commission?. You guys need to go the drawing board and come up with some innovative ways to elicit money from your supporters. People are more about flexibility these days, not being stuck in rigid monthly payments where you set the amount. It's so 90's and honestly just makes me feel resentful.
They will keep calling you asking for more money even if you ask nicely not to be contacted again. The telephone harassment has turned me off for good
Don't donate, it's a legal scam. Don't trust them. Once they take your credit card number, they take money out of your bank account without your permission. They called me on the phone, at first they talk to me about Amazon and climate change and the person on the phone sounded like he was about to cry. He said we need you to donate money, to save our planet, we need your credit card number." And I told them " I am only a student." He told me you only need to donate $2." I thought it is only $2 but after they took my credit card number, he told me " we took $60 out of your bank account right now and we will take $60 each month." I was shocked and asked why?" Then he explained "$2 is for each day" He sounded like he was angry at me.I really hate how this company take money from people by fooling them.
