Place for : photo and relaxing Walking down from my bus toward the bus station, the cold winter is blowing so strong it got into my bone. As i get into the train after purchasing my ticket, the train blow a loud horn, making sure everybody know that the adventures is about to begin. As the engine start, pulling its body trough a dense fog, i sit beside the window not sure what to expect in this journey I'm about to have, and enjoying the moments alone. As the sun starts to rise up, pushing all the fog, slowly revealing the beauty it hides, i was mesmerized, and stand up reaching for my camera and rush to the front. As the door open and i walk to the open side of the train, my eyes won't shut itself. Range of mountains, full with wild flowers, stream of rivers shimmering like gold, lots and lots of green field, full of animals, and still so many indescribable by words alone. That moment i really wish god give me an extra pair of eye in my back so I won't miss a moments of the scene in the other side of the train. When you come here make sure you bring camera and prepare the right lenses for your shots. Every penny you pay for this trip will worth it. You won't regret it, I'm sure of this. It makes me wonder what will this landscape be when it is spring. And how about summer and spring?
The Great Journeys of New Zealand is a very good company. I took TranzAlpine with them which was very beautiful & scenic. Their Interislander was also very helpful in going from South to North Island. The plus lounge access on Interislander is extremely useful so make sure you get it. The staff of TGJONZ is also very friendly & cooperative.
Wow, to part of the second train trip since March - Covid 19 was amazing- the only disappointment was no snow about
An amazing train ride! I did Picton to Christchurch. Loved the open window Carriages to get awesome photos and fresh air. Plus in your designated seat, you have headphones sharing historic stories and facts. Hope to be back to experience other train rides through out South Island.
Yes, the Tranzalpine is a marvelous trip. If the weather is good, the scenery is excellent. The staff are very helpful and the chojce of food adequate for ths trip. Comfortable seating and gokd viewing. Yes, perhaps expensive, but worth it and well inside similar tours overseas! Good parking by Christchurch station, but be good and early for the Tranzalpine as the Coastal Pacific leaves earlier and their passengers can take a share of the space available. We arrived 45 minutes early yesterday and could have parked at the station. 14 August 2019
Coastal Pacific. Great way to travel and sit back enjoy the food and drink on board. Due to flooding we were transferred to buses part way. Staff were excellent in keeping us informed what was happening and quick hassel free change over. Thanks. Not impressed with the staff at Piction Station who were very unhelpfullwhen we arrived. Had wanted to do Tranz Alphine but make bookings early as holidays booked out quick need extra trips during this time
We took the journey today to Picton and back as the journey was a gift and only knowing of Railways of old, had some reservations attached to the outcome. I kid you not, the Railways of my youth have gone. Today"s voyage was awesome from start to finish. The train it's self was very smooth and so quiet, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, the food we had was exceptional down to the salted caramel banana cake. If you have wondered what it is like, have no fear. Buy a trip today and enjoy it like we did.
Great way to see New Zealand. As a local I enjoyed seeing different parts of New Zealand that are slightly more remote. But it is extremely expense for what it is. Several hours of sitting next to the door and even further towards the middle of the carriage the toilets smell severely. Almost unbearable. The toilets need a lot more ventilation because a lot of the stink ends up in the carriage as the doors are opened every other second. Still though lovely views but I wouldn't do it again and if I was the train would have to be next to empty.
Just got on the train to Greymouth. Baggage is checked, a good thing with the limited overhead luggage space. This is one old train, we're in coach L next to the viewing coach. Nice roomy comfy seats. Will update later.
We booked seats on the Transalpine. The staff member was very good at explaining what the trip involved and price
