Newly opened State Bistro offers a creative list of bar nibbles that leave your culinary curiosity satisfied and your stomach happy. My favourite was tempura prawns with its juicy core, crispy coating and aromatic spicy aftertaste. We also tried duck pâté in traditional European style - with gherkins on the side. And mushrooms cigars were not your usual bar snack. Now need to check their lunches on Fridays and dinners.
Great new restaurant! We went for dinner tonight and have no complaints whatsoever, nothing but great things to say about State Bistro. The food was phenomenal, so was the service. Everything we ate and drank surpassed all expectations. My personal favorite were the oysters and steak. Every member of staff we were served by were exceptional. The whole evening was top notch. We will definitely be back again soon.
Amazing food, excellent decor and vinyl by request
Pub food at very expensive prices. Mains average $50 + $10 to add a vegetable. Two mains were good, But not exceptional. One of the steaks had a lot of gristle in, And for $45, that was not good. There was no special decoration. The cocktails were nice, the desserts were okay, but not exceptional. Three people, three cocktails no starters, three mains two desserts $225. The atmosphere is an interesting concept, but it doesn’t really work as it is not dinner music and for more than three people it’s difficult to hear others. They are much better places in New Plymouth at much better prices. Service was friendly but very inexperienced
The food was good and the service was exceptional. However the music that was playing during lunch service on the 24th of December absolutely tarnished our experience. Heavy metal Christmas Carols Christmas Carols are bad enough, followed by Alice Cooper. It was awful. We couldn't wait to get out of there.
The food here is beautiful. I left the server to choose my dinner. It was worth it.
Great art gallery with artists from all over Taranaki, with good service and knowledge. Really enjoyed visiting this place. Thank you.
I wasn't overly impressed. The make over looks great. However there was a sewage smell close to the restaurant area where we were seated. We had a large party that booked out the restaurant and they ran out of meals so people had to take the alternatives which was disappointing and the food was very average. This may have just been a bad night but I'm not inclined to go back.
Food was great and presented well, however the staff let the experience down, of the 4 staff working front of house and at the bar the all struggled to smile or demonstrate any desire to be there. Having worked in hotspot myself and managed bars and restaurants it disappoints me to see staff who just dont wanna be there. With the right staff to go with the food this place could he amazing. Wont be back in a hurry
Menu is smaller but much better than when they opened. Would like to see more authentic French desserts on the menu. Went with my wife & father, all of us having traveled to & eaten our fair share of French food; we had the provence rosé, French onion soup excellent/burrata very good as entrees + snapper good/eye fillet good/sirloin excellent with chips excellent as mains + cremeux good/pannacotta good as desserts.. Excellent atmosphere & good food; a nice place to spend 2 hours eating.. They have very cool bar/fireplace/cocktail seating; decor is very very nice. Recommend you get 1 of the 3 booth seating for meals.
