Nice and warm place to crash on a road trip. Run by a very friendly couple and 3 cute dogs. Love it! Keen to revisit when I return to Takaka! Rooms: 5/5
Leanne is great hostess. Real relaxed atmosphere and everyone sits on the deck at the beginning or ending of each day, chatting and joking. Facilities are clean and plenty of kitchen stuff to use. Just a cool as great place. Has caravans with more comfort than tents or bunks.
Barefoot Backpackers Hostel in Takaka is a more like a Bed and Breakfast than a standard hostel....and I mean that in the very best way! Leanne and Noddy are sincerely wonderfully sweet and caring hosts and they create a warm and welcoming environment for all of their guests. For three evenings I gladly shared their hospitality, conversation, and their wood burning stove in their comfy den. Each morning I very much enjoyed their complimentary muesli and tea/coffee. The gentlemen from the Solomon Islands provided countless free kiwi fruit as well. What a perfect free breakfast! The bathroom accommodations were spacious and clean while the bunk beds were surprisingly comfortable. Kitchen was large and Barefoot backpackers location is incredibly central as well. For the record, Barefoot has been owned and operated by Leanne and Noddy for the last year or so. Should you go to Takaka, certainly visit the Te Waikoropupu Springs. I borrowed one of the free bikes and made my way there twice during my stay in Takaka as I feel it was one of the most amazing and sacred places I encountered in my 3 weeks in New Zealand. Traveling provides adventure and incredible vistas, but in the end it's the people that I encounter that truly resonate with me years later. I will never forget my time with Leanne and Noddy at Barefoot Backpackers as their hospitality and genuine kindness was exceptional. Hostels are hostels, but owners can create a special place. Barefoot Backpackers and Leanne and Noddy earn my highest recommendation for a hostel. Please say hello to these special people for me!
So... It has been pretty since i left this nice lil place in November 2019... and I really miss this place. I`ve met good friends there and became good friends with the owners there and we had a great time. Every Wednesday we had Potlack were we all made something to eat and chared our food with each other! It felt like a home. Also the special muesli we had is so great! I never had a better one. Thank you so much Lian and Noddy! <3
Stayed in the 6 bed dorm for iirc $28. The staff is friendly, and the beds are comfortable and solid. Takaka was a very good decision, it is a wonderful little hippy town with a great atmosphere. Came from Motueka which by contrast I did not like. That said, here the facilities are somewhat limited. It is a nice place and you can have a wonderful time here; the atmosphere is chillaxed and it feels like a home. However, I have also stayed in hostels under 20$ in NZ that are quite a bit better equipped.
Stayed here with my girlfriend one night after coming out of the Heaphy track and got pleasantly surprised. The hostel is, as the whole town of Takaka seems to be, a bit alternative to hippy like oriented. But that turned out here into a great thing. People are easy going. The lady who was receiving us was very friendly and we welcoming. The hostel is in walking distance to town. The beds are solid and don't make noise everytime you move. The bathrooms are basic but well designed. On the back of the hostel you have the option to pitch your tent for less money. We paid 25NZD per bed in a 6 bed dorm with BBH membership. Would go here again!
This Hostel is for sure the best i ever visited. The Owners are more than friendly, the Atmosphere ist wonderful. Pot Luck every wednesday. : a beautiful living together with nice people which are mostly open minded. Very, very beautiful place in the beautiful region takaka. Totally worth it to visit
Warm, wonderful, and welcoming hosts who dispense not only hospitality: but wisdom and advice. I loved the eclectic group of people that shared the roof, the kitchen, and shared their soul with me
Great place to stay with all the comforts of home on hand. Leanne and Noddy could not have been better hosts and we'll definitely be back to stay next time we're in this neck of the woods.
Nice hostel, with clean toilets and showers, comfy bed, nice owner and fun vibe. Definitely recommend you stay in this one. Say hey to Lee-Ann for me
