Wonderful accomodation, gorgeous setting, handy location and Raylene is a very accommodating and helpful host with many useful tips to make the most of your time on the island. She so graciously opens her home to you, sets you up for the day with a hearty breakfast and is so interested in what you've been doing. The delightful Lochiel is a bonus for dog lovers.
Beautiful garden where you can view the visiting native birds up close, comfortable rooms and a lovely host Raylene who went out of her way to dress my bleeding wounds when I fell from my ebike. Breakfast was very generous with homemade yogurt, rhubarb from the garden, a selection of cereals and spreads for your toast. It’s a convenient walk to golden bay wharf to take the ferry to ulva island too.
This was the most wonderful place to stay on Stewart Island. Our room was more than comfortable with coffee, tea and biscuits available at all times. The house is surrounded by a fascinating garden that looks out onto a valley full of Stewart Island birds. We could see kakas, tui, and a host of others right up to the deck with a great panoramic view. Raylene, our host, went above and beyond in making us welcome and comfortable. She is knowledgeable on so many different topics and was most helpful in arranging things for us during our stay. Breakfasts included homemade yoghurt and jams, a range of cereals and pretty much anything cooked to order. This place is a gem on the island.
