I haven't had fish n chips in a long time so thought I'd give Gibbo's a try as it was highly recommended to me. Well I was very impressed. Tidy and clean shop with a few tables inside, but they are definitely spoilt with the stunning setting outside looking over the harbour out to Whale Island. Staff were friendly, very generous portion sizes, crispy batter and crispy kumara chips. Never had such nice kumara chips before. Best fish n chips I've ever had. Best part is sitting on bench seats outside enjoying the meal with beautiful view. Highly recommended.

The food was covered in oil. It wasn't drained at all. The paper that our food came out in was soaked in oil. When we left we had left our tray and leftovers on the table and as we were walking away the lady yelled out to us "excuse me! we expect you to bring your tray back in. Had they told us to bring our tray back in we would have happily done so". She was rude. Made a scene. Food was awful. And we had the taste of oil in our mouths for the rest of the day. Will never go back!
Lovely spot on the wharf with a view of whale island. Lovely sea breeze. Very generous portions of food and a nice assortment of drinks. Tidy clean shop and the same with the outdoor seating area. The staff are professional and friendly and helped us with the best deal for our needs. Made our visit to Whakatane an even better experience before heading off back home to Te Puke.
All the staff were lovely. Definitely our place for hot chippies. Even have Fresh bread and Butter available Food: 5/5

Yum food, fresh, quick and recommend!
Very decent fish & chips on the wharf in Whakatane. Lots of options for fish other than just 'fish of the day' and the usual deep fried selection of fritters, sausages, burgers chips & other seafood plus ice cream and drinks. They do have some seating inside with high chairs available, overflow seating upstairs, there's a fishtank you can watch while you're watching for your food. There are a couple of picnic tables outside on the wharf if you want to eat straight away.
Thought I check this place out, glad I did service and staff were excellent, fast and friendly. As for food we had wedges which was delicious. To say that they're busy, was a understatement customers rocking up all the time. Hats off to the cook Amber and her work colleague, who didn't miss a beat or order
Cool place to dine in, reason for only 3 stars was because by time we got home, 7 minute drive the chips on bottom of cardboard were soggy & some parts of the battered fish 2. Loved the salt sachets thou & the gurnard fish tasted yummy. Maybe need bit more cooking so doesn't go soggy??? Love the fish tank. And sunset was beautiful to watch while waiting.
