Geraldine Historical Museum offers a wide variety of exhibits that showcase our unique local story from the earliest days of settlement to the present day. Full sized photographic wall panels, created locally, carry the visitor along our timeline and enhance the changing displays beneath them. A DVD runs continuously for those who like to sit and enjoy it. There is a wide variety of written and photographic material for those who prefer reading.
We have a play area for children to enjoy while the adults look around the museum. The local Telephone Exchange (1903 - 1987) offers a hands on exhibit that brings memories of being a switchboard operator around the world – we have collected these stories. This is the favourite exhibit with the children as they are allowed to ‘use’ it – often with an accompanying adult explaining the operation to disbelief and delight.
We are in an easy to find location – on a main state highway and surrounded by interesting shops and cafes. The local Information Centre is located just next door.
We offer a family research service with a knowledgeable researcher who has a vast collection of resources to access. Also, an extensive collection of photographs enhances the opportunity to build a unique story of your family in Geraldine.
Our museum is run entirely by volunteers – an enthusiastic team who bring a wide variety of skills to enhance your visit. This support allows us to be open seven days a week.
A large building extension has significantly enlarged our display area. Currently a wide variety of historical photos and paintings are on display as we work to raise the funds required to outfit this amazing space.
We welcome thousands of visitors yearly who leave wonderful comments in our visitors book such as: ‘Fantastic , A Credit to Geraldine, Interesting history and Memorabilia. Past Geraldine residents find many memories to share with family and friends.
