What a great place! We went for dinner with our toddler at 5pm. Great service from staff. Lovely cocktails and mocktails. Tasty food. Interesting decor! There was even a highchair and our toddler loved the cheesy corn!
So yum! Love the freshly my bao and cocktails, not to mention the long list of side dishes. The tofu bao was amazing, but be aware you need to ask for the vegan menu. Wish they just had the tofu bao on their regular menu to avoid the hassle of asking. Meal for 2 people with drinks was 90, very reasonable.
Our waiter was so knowledgeable in terms of the menu. The food was super tasty, and fresh. Prices were good, and atmosphere was great. We were here with teenagers, we know how fussy they can be, but Funbuns was a hit with them too.Food: 5/5
I visited with my family of five last week. We were seated on a table that did not allow for five and when more suitable seating became available, we were asked to stand up and wait until the table was wiped. This was very embarrassing, and the waitress was rude and dismissive. The waitress forgot to serve some drinks and whilst the food was very good, we were served one bowl between us and had to wait ten to fifteen minutes before anything else arrived. I wrote direct to the manager and although he offered as explanation and an intent to improve, it did not include an apology.
Again place for unfussy great Asian inspired food. Great options for vegans/ vegetarians too... Amazing staff and good atmosphere... Only quibble was the music, but the young adults with us loved it!Food: 4/5

Brilliant service, both on spectacular drinks and epic food. It was a SUPER busy night after a Jimmy Carr show and the place was rammed, however we were met with a real "can do" attitude and the vibe was fun and buzzy. Can't wait for the next visit!
Excellent, wasn't that impressed with the wontons as not sure what was in them. Was supposed to be pork and cabbage but was some kind of black stuff, in saying that they still tasted fine.. Bao buns were amazing, the pork and chicken with their different sauces was beautifully cooked. Got a pot of cocktail lol, is meant for three but only two of us. Tasted delightful. Peach and vodka yum. We sat outside which was great
Unbelievably Funbuns has come back after lockdowns better than before. They’ve extended the place, the atmosphere, service and the food is superb, the cocktails looked like the Crown Jewels. A very pleasant night out had by all in our family. Funbuns sets the standard for the rest of Hawkes Bay restaurants, highly recommended.
This has got to up there with the best restaurants in Hawkes Bay. I have been here multiple times and it never fails to impress. The service is excellent, the drinks are 1st class thanks to Dave’s cocktail and mixology knowledge and experience, and the food is super tasty; well portioned, comes out in good time and well priced. I think many would struggle to find a better overall place to dine in Hastings or Napier! Nick is a visionary!
