A group of us had a great time here after a day trip to Akaroa. We arrived reasonably late and were the only ones there, but were greeted by a very friendly and helpful lady who opened up just for us to have some cheese, crackers and wine. She let us come into the kitchen and pick out what we wanted and served everything up to us. The place itself is located in a beautiful location. The views are incredible, very nice wine and the facilities are well presented and clean. Would recommend for sure and will return.
I am a kiwi and not familiar with the customs of the French, or my complete naivete to what "Deli style" is?? First impressions; Not a good start! Lack of direction from the carpark, there were options but no obvious signage or staff to direct/greet & usher... Once seated and the concept was relayed, odd! I wanted to leave there and then but was persuaded otherwise. We could have purchased most of these food items from the supermarket. It lacked energy/vibe, the setting was great but service/food options didn't compliment it. Our table was sticky, hadn't been cleaned for awhile I suspect. The place has good potential and I feel as though it's going to need a few fundamental changes to get a good series of positive feedback. The staff that we did encounter were friendly but need to be a bit more dynamic think outside the box, across the board to turn it around. 2½ star rating.
We visited French Farm on a beautiful summers day. It’s a bar and deli, food available - but it’s a ‘build your own platter’ scenario. Novel, but a few too many decisions for me! I would have much preferred if they had platters available to order. Staff were lovely and accomodating.
Beautiful setting. Really was outstanding. We just had a cake and coffee so can't comment on the cheese, pate and cracker platters. The concept seems popular, choose all your own and sit down, unpack it and eat with a nice wine .
The new owners have worked hard to tidy the property. They offer a unique ' build your own platter box.' Crackers, cheeses, dried meats etc. to enjoy in the garden with a lovely glass of wine. The left overs are yours to take.
A lovely place to check out, very nice people, would be a great spot for a wedding venue. The new owners have only been open a few weeks after fleshing up the place. At this stage, they are only offering cabnet food and a cheese board. We stayed for drinks and the cheese board. The cheese board is a bit over complicated, where everything is purchased separately as you would at the supermarket. You recive your purchases still wrapped in there original packaging in a cute crate along with a doggie bag . A rather low risk approach for the management. but in my opinion, detracts from the experience a simple generic board would have been much better. Enjoyed our visit overall
Amazing wine, amazing experience. These guys are just all around epic people. Highly recommend their place on canopy camping or even just popping over for a wine tasting
Beautiful spot on a rainy day just after Christmas. Gardens and courtyard look fantastic, really nice friendly owners providing great service with the build your own platters going down a treat
Awesome hosts, wonderful accommodation, grounds and facilities, highly recommend staying here and experiencing there French resort style facilities and rooms, thank you so much for making our stay a great experience
When we arrived, we were lured into a false sense of security and quality. The outside gardens were great for family photos before we went in. Then things changed. The lounge part had a lot of flash furniuture and a huge bookcase that had a set of Encyclopedia Brittanica and I think maybe Barbara Cartland books and Readers Digest hardcovers. But we were not posh enough to go in that area so it was roped off. The starter of volcanic ciabatta bread was really nice, but two plates, of two breads each, were put in front of two people. Half way through my second bread, I awkwardly realised there was only one piece per person. They really should have hinted at this by not giving two people the plates for four people. The choice of the lunch was reduced somewhat by two main items being off the menu. I chose the tikka masala, thinking that at $32 or so it should be quite exceptional. Wrong. 'Confusing' is a more apt description. There were two small side dishes, like relishes, that didn't really go with it at all. The leftover naan bread could probably go in the recycling as it was close to cardboard. The sauce itself was nothing that wouldn't be lost in a jar on a supermarket shelf. I hope they recycled the bottle too. As for hygiene and presentation, the tile floor could do with a hot mop or maybe a water blaster to clear the food from previous times. The paper menus, especially the desert menu, had food samples from many previous dishes. Maybe that was the idea. However, my friend next to me had delicious fries. I must get an air fryer. I reckon Gordon Ramsay would have a field day at this place.
