Basic all weather hockey field with some courtside shelter, a clubrooms and good lighting for after dark play.
The new blue surface here is fantastic. No longer 'flat as a nutron star' how flat is a nutron star? the new surface has a distinct curve from the centre to the sides for improved hockey performance. Great lighting for evening matches & practice sessions. Venue could be improved by adding seating ideally covered for those hardy spectators braving the winter days & nights on the sidelines. Otherwise fine...
The facilities are fine, the rooms and dugouts are very dated and it seems as though the new practice turf is better than the actual turf. It's a shame the hockey turf was not included in the Rico sports centre. It think it would really benefit. In my opinion, Fraser Park is the worst turf in wellington.
I like supporting the teams when I'm in town which is why it's high. The place needs some looking after.. Safety guards on one half are missing and loose pipes all over the foot path around the perimeter aren't great. Come on guys you can erect a new sports centre but can't maintain the existing ground for the people using and paying for them?
The pavilion has a cafe & other food menu. Just enquire inside especially the opening hours so you know when it's open for business
