This is our third trip to the forest fantastic location and the hideaway that we stayed in is magical. Great walks and bike rides. Hot tub and decking area is so relaxing and tranquil. So why do I not award 5 stars It is pricey and for that I would expect everything .its a self catering holiday and a lovely kitchen to cook in but it lacks quality utensils and missing a few simple items. Sharp knives, pasta serving spoons egg flipper and measuring jug. That said we will definitely come again. Big highlight for us was the archery. Brilliant activity and brilliant tuition from are tutors
A fantastic holiday overall. A nice, very well equipped cabin in the middle of the forest, and the hot tub / log burner + the gas barbecue really make the stay extremely comfy. Very good communication messages go straight to your TV. Nice Christmas animal decorations in the forest. Great walks around the forest, too. A few relatively minor things that could be improved: 1. We understand that it's mostly a self-catering staycation, but adding a greater choice of take-away food/drink could be a real opportunity for the business. 2. We could not use the log burner while our 2-year old was awake. There were no fire guards left, and frankly we didn't think one would have helped based on its description. This might need some thinking through. Our son would've really enjoyed the fire. On the positive side, the log burner looked stunning at night, so we are convinced that families with much younger or much older children would enjoy it a lot.
Really lovely cabins which are modern and have all the amenities you would need. They are set in the forest down dirt paths and generally have 2 off track parking spaces and are secluded. Even the hit tub out the back of our one isn't overlooked. Underfloor heating, oven, hib, microwave, dishwasher, etc. all new and clean. The reception, small shop and tea room is efficient and friendly, although food in the shop is quite limited. Essentials only, although there is pasta, cheese, milk, bread, sauces, etc. Plenty of cakes though!! Quiet and a few activities, the outdoor escape room point to point quiz and puzzles taking a while and gets you walking! Lovely place, will come again.
The shower roof was completely covered In mold. The lights behind sofa covered in dead flies. Coffee stains all up the wall in kitchen by the door. The bed was like sleeping on a rock. The outside light didn't work so we struggled to find our cabin number and the hot tub was dirty. It was lovely to get out into the woodlands but the cabin wasn't to a good standard for the price I paid very unhappy. My parents were planning on staying and also my cousin's after there wedding near by but after seeing how the cabin was kept they have changed their mind and sadly we shall be looking elsewhere for somewhere to stay for our long weekends away. Also the staff always seemed unhappy and wasn't very helpful at all. We booked a taxi trainstaion transport from you that for us to our train late even though you asked us when our train was due. I think for that price we also shouldn't have to buy logs and fire starters for the fire. Slippers would of been nice to as you had dressing gowns.
So lovely to get away in a place that is peaceful and enjoyable. Our only let downs were the hot tub desperately needed replacing as there was only one setting and it was extremely poor, along with a broken jet and a lot of grit in the bottom. Also the long driveway could do with a bit of work as it's got an awful lot of pot holes and has a huge gravelled drive, too long for it all to just be gravel. Dog-friendliness: Very dog friendly throughout the retreat and cabins.
It is pricy, need minimum 4 days stay, but great place for a short break. Log cabins are very nice, self catering with one's own hot tub. Communal facilities such as cafe/restaurant and shops and children's play area all there with ample large forest for walks as much as you want.
We visited in the summer holidays and still, 2.5 months later, forest holidays haven't acknowledged our awful experience. Other sites might be nice but I really wouldn't recommend Blackwood Forest. Filthy hot tub, very rude staff, charged for things we didn't receive. Even after confirming the hot tub hadn't been cleaned, they've now lied and claimed it was. Awful company to deal with, which is such a shame as we definitely would have tried other sites if they had better customer service.
We went four days with friends to celebrate a birthday. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. We would've liked a bigger fridge, but at the end, it did the job and we managed. We also booked two activies, archery and forest survival, they were both great fun and the staff that run them are super nice and full of knowledge. They've lost one point because of their booking system as we feel a lot of information is missing. We thought we would be able to go from the morning to do activities not to access the cabin or to stay a bit later after check out to do activities again, not in the cabin but upon emailing them to ask, it turns out you can't book activities on the day you arrive/depart, which to us seemed like a waste of two half days. They also don't give you the opportunity to choose the times for activities although it points out you can, so when we arrived we were told we had activities from 10:00 which was not suitatable for the plans we had. Nevertheless, we were bale to change the timings. The surroundings are wonderful, the staff is very polite and helpful and overall it was an amazing experience that we will surely repeat .
A beautiful peaceful site. Lots of walks through the forest paths but lots of none holiday makers on them too. It is described as luxury, and the Lodges on first seeing are beautiful, secluded , and extremely big. The Kitchen is well equipped with all utensils, etc, that you would expect. If I was asked to fault-find as it is a luxury site, for the cost for 11 of us for a four night stay for three lodges £4500.00. We had the following issues across the three lodges, things at a less expensive site that would not probably bother us. 1. Outside lights not working, reported and fixed but went again within an hour. It's pitch black outside 2. One lodge lost all the heating but it was repaired very quickly 3. TVs kept losing the connection and no tv in the master bedroom 4. Fridge and Freezer is one, there is only a small drawer freezer in the fridge. There needs to be a fridge and a freezer 6. The site is not private and non holiday makers arrive in droves on a daily basis. They fill the car park, the cafe its a small cafeand the forest with dogs all of lead 7. Fixtures and fittings need attention 8. The seating hadn't been cleaned under the cushions. Badly stained 9. The bedrooms are big, but could do with a couple of chests of drawers for clothes 10. The road into the site is a track and is full of massive pot holes. You have to be very, very careful when driving on it. Positives 1. The staff are really amazing , and go the extra mile. 2. The cofee shop is great 3. The shop is more of a gift shop but has basic essentials 4. I ordered a delivery of food from Sainsbury's which was delivered directly to our lodge. 5. The hot tub was checked every single day Would I go again? At the price they are now quoting for next year, 2023, unless refurbishment of the lodges takes place, and the non holiday makers issue is dealt with, then no. Simple touches can make all the difference
Pot-holes!! The cabins were good and as expected, however the roads are ridden with potholes. Every inch of each road is completely dotted with holes. The speed limit is supposed to be 10mph, however could hardly get above 1mph and when you think the site is spread out across a large forest, it takes ages to to and from your cabin. This caused damage to the underside of my car, which isn't great.
