Story

The Fo Guang Shan temple is a large temple and community centre of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist movement in the East Tamaki/Flat Bush suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. It is the largest Buddhist temple in the country. The temple and complex were built over seven years at a cost NZ$ 20 million. It was designed in the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty. The temple also includes a large Buddha statue and a two-tonne bell.Opened in late 2007, the mission of the new temple is to promote Humanistic Buddhism. But it is also intended to benefit (and is open to) non-Buddhists, "through education and teaching people how to lead good lives." Even before its official opening, the temple had provided community courses such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese language, yoga and martial arts, as well as providing a venue for crime prevention talks and meetings.

What a beautiful temple. We love coming here as a family. The staff are very friendly and their art gallery section is amazing. Great place to go for some peace and quiet. I love walking around and just exploring the different parts. Such a spectacular place.
Beautiful gardens, inspiring quotes and has a nice vegetarian restaurant with super friendly staff. I like how the staff working there were all very clam and patient while serving long lines of customers and enjoyed what they were doing. The place was busy and fulfilling and theres good vibes all around. A great place to visit when you need some good energies in your life
There is a big Temple in Auckland. It's peaceful place! Here Welcome everyone to experience, learn more about religion. Next to the main hall there is a small room for you to write your wishes on paper and stick it on the wall. The campus is elegant, the atmosphere feels light. There is a large parking lot in front of the temple. The temple tromg has a souvenir area and a vegetarian restaurant, with outdoor and indoor seating. I had a good time here!
Wow, what a beautiful temple! The temple itself is beautiful and the atmosphere so serene. Very well maintained! Come hungry so you can enjoy some great vegetarian food at the Water Drop Cafe.
I wanted to go to the cherry blossom festival at the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple, but couldn't because I was working I decided to go today. There was still a bit of blossoms left but most have been blown away by the wind and rain You can buy a bell with a tag, on which you write your deepest wish/desire and then you hang it in the cherry blossom tree The Temple grounds are huge. With a school, accommodation, beautiful contemplative gardens, the temple, and a full vegan restaurant on site It was so lovely walking around the peaceful gardens, receiving blessings, freeing your mind from stress and having some good food. They are open every day until 3pm. I definitely recommend that everyone goes at least once for a relaxing and energising experience
Enjoy the cherry blossom in the late Spring at the Fo Guang Shan temple as well as the tranquility here. A wonderful garden with lovely sculptures, bamboos and plants. There are oriental exhibitions from time to time. A nice, popular vegetarian restaurant, a gift shop. A bit surprise that Masks are still required here, however if you didn’t have one, they offer free mask for you. Easy onsite parking.
Heads up, wear pants or maxi length dresses - basically, cover your legs and make sure your shoulders are covered, if you want to enter. Lovely and serene space that was super calming. Personally, the 'museum' where the one stroke calligraphy is exhibited, is a must see. There's also a lovely cafe and gift shop too.
Fo Guang Shan is a place of serenity and self-discovery. The place is very welcoming for everyone regardless of race and religion. They have regular exhibition and worth visiting during key cultural dates. Their vegetarian restaurant is so yummmmmm! Anything soup based is a must try. The prices are reasonable around $12-$15 per dish. Portion is sizeable and service is always friendly with a smile. I come here to pray regularly and bring along my non-Buddhist friends who enjoy the peace and blessings together with me.
Temple is nice. Open area could be a bit larger. Food is actually nice here. However....... It's the only temple I have ever been to that requiress to take off shoes when entering the main Buddha room and it's the only temple I have ever been to that forbids visitors wearing shorts. even just in the room beside it, there is an exhibition telling us the the Buddha encounters a very dirty man and holds his hand and says people should not be judged by the appearance but by the behaviour The only temple I have ever been to that uses simplified Chinese characters on the plaque of the main Buddha room, which I saw it was still in traditional Chinese character a couple of years ago.
So Beautiful and inviting ,beautiful gardens and building. Really enjoyed the food and the amazing architecture. Thank you all so much for your kindness and friendlyness of everyone it was a wonderful experience will love to go back found it really makes one think about being open and kind. Make sure to wear long pants or a long skirt
