The food was really great. Must have a really good kitchen team. This place has a lot of character. Unfortunately some things took away from the overall experience: The Cleanliness needs some work. The Wall we were sat by had food splatters on the wall well above table level. Water jugs were dirty. Bits floating in water. Glasses spotty. Their menu has happy hour deals but doesn't specify that it is weekdays only, Wait person wasn't understanding. Usually menus specify happy hour days. We Had to keep asking or looking for sauce. We were Overcharged but this was fixed after we realized and mentioned it.
It is a nice place to dine in rather. Offers outdoor seating as well. A bar is there , so of course alcohol yes. Happy hour specials are there. They open in the evening at 5.00pm. You would find it is confusing to find it because it is attached to a motel which seems to be the same group I guess. Food is good enough. Coffee option was good too. Have got a fire place , but 30/12/2022 evening when we visited there, it wasn't going on. Table service is there. Cards are accepted.
Loved this place! It's next to the hotel we stayed at so we had our breakfast here which was delicious and coffee was great. It's just got an awesome feel when you're here with super friendly staff, great decor and good food. Definitely recommend coming here
There's so much character in this bar. Felt like a hunting lodge with the roaring fire. Nice big windows to see outside pity it was too cold to sit outside. What we really liked about it though was the friendly staff. The bar staff were so helpful when we were deciding on wines and they were knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed it so much we stayed for dinner and even meet the chef. Food was hearty and delicious. Can't wait to come back!
26/4/2023 Brilliant service, Brilliant meals. We celebrate a 21st at Five Stags, and would recommend to all my friends and family. Then returned on 20/5/23 through to the 23/5/23. I got the Cajun chicken, Pork ribs, and also the breakfast. Wow it was so amazing i would highly recommend it. All the staff and the manager are amazing as well. Thumbs up to the Manager, Cook, and the young lad that works so hard. It was nice to have the manager who sits down and has a conversation with you and makes you feel welcome.
Delicious meals, we ordered the Pan fried salmon with steam vegies and mushroom sauce, this meal was all cooked perfectly and delicious! We also ordered the share platter, the calamari was either cooked too fast or too high as the outside was brown and crispy but very mushy inside. The chicken was also over cooks as it was dark brown crunchy and dry. The chips and onion rings were nice and cooked nicely. We ordered the kids fish bites and chips which were cooked perfectly and delicious. Meal came quickly and staff were very friendly
Staying at the accommodation next door so thought we would go here for a nice NYE meal and cocktails. We were wrong. No cocktails being served even though on the menu. Very overpriced food which unfortunately was also disappointing. Plastic plates, meals slapped together and a long wait for how empty the place was. This should have been our sign to leave, it was dead Wasn’t the start to the evening we were hoping for. Save your money and go elsewhere. I wouldn’t even bother stopping in for a drink unfortunately. Such a shame as it could be a great place. Staff were friendly.
Food fantastic! Beer fantastic! Service not fantastic! Hard to understand glove-wearing Indian waiter had us seated, took drinks order, delivered drinks, took mains order, delivered mains. Then that was it. Never came back to our table to check at anytime. We had to go to bar to ask for more drinks. Later we had to go back to bar to ask for dessert menus. Table service non existent. Disappointing.
We came in February as a small group of friends, place was pretty dead, almost feel bad due to the number of other poor reviews but it was pretty terrible. Lemon lime and bitters had a total of 4 dead mosquitos in it pictured. $50 "medium rare" steak was brown right through and looked off, some had finished their meals before other meals had even arrived, could go on and on.. staff was uninterested and messed up very simple orders/instructions. Also took around 1.5hr for food to come out. Hopefully it has improved since then, but wont be back to find out.
Appalling in every way. We booked a table for family on Xmas day lunch buffet. Absolutely disgusting food. Way overpriced. Shocking customer service and they deliberately overcharged us. The chef and manager repeatedly told me the menu would be safe for a celiac. Upon arrival the head chef told the the vegan lasagne was safe. He knew nothing about food allergies or that pasta had gluten in it. The staff were all internationals who couldn’t have cared less about the Xmas traditions. Accommodation providers in Hanmer have since told us that no one eats there and they don’t refer anyone to the restaurant and will be throwing away any advertising this year for the Xmas buffet. Many unhappy diners on Xmas day walking out. Avoid this place. Parking: Lots
