Good experience with the staff and food. Showed up with no reservation around 6-7pm and there were no tables available. Fortunately we were able to snag a table outdoors with the help of a young, friendly and thoughtful server. Chowder, kumara fries and salmon are all delicious! Highly recommended! Parking: Limited parking space but you should be able to get a spot along the street.
Came with high hopes and was unfortunately slightly disappointed. The view was good, service was good and food came pretty quickly. Ordered a seafood chowder, seafood sizzle plate and fisherman’s basket. Seafood chowder was decent, unlike some really starchy ones I’ve had. It was light yet creamy. Seafood sizzle plate was disappointing. Fish wasn’t well seasoned and tasted bland. Coconut rice wasn’t what I expected, couldn’t really taste the coconut apart from the fresh flakes on top. Fisherman’s basket was alright, crumbed layer was light but it tasted really greasy oil used maybe?, didn’t finish the dish. I have to say all the seafood were fresh no doubt, but we might’ve came on an off-night. Plenty of free street parking nearby and they do have limited parking just behind the restaurant. Recommend making a reservation as it seems pretty popular amongst locals.
We wanted sea food and had a lovely experience here. Right on the edge of the harbour where a seafood restaurant should be. From the fresh bluff oysters to the surf and turf where my meat was cooked to perfection. Dessert was delicious also. The staff were very polite and very responsive. We have no hesitation and look forward to going back.
Delicious seafood dinner on our way through the area. Staff was friendly, courteous and attentive. Place fills up at peak times so reservations are suggested. Decent amount of seating inside and a few parking spaces in the lot. We enjoyed our meals and would eat here again.Recommended dishesCatch of the Day, Seafood Sizzle Plate, Steamed Mussels, Scallops Wrapped in Bacon, Captains Platter, Sea Food Platter
Food was amazing. I had the steak cooked medium rare and it was perfect as were the chips, onion rings, salad and mushroom sauce. My husband had the seafood basket which he said was fabulous. He’d been wanting a seafood platter/basket since we arrived in NZ and this hit the mark. Friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere. Was a little chilly in the enclosed area outside, but nothing a coat didn’t fix. Definitely recommend.
Type of restaurant: Casual, seafood Overall 5/5: Good welcoming ambience, service was great and food is also delicious. Service 5/5: The staff were welcoming, and very helpful in suggesting/explaining the dishes. Food 5/5: Food has a decent portion, with great taste. We had the seafood chowder as entree, and 2 other dishes both with the name fisherman's at the front - one is a hot plate, the other is a basket of fried seafood. The seafood chowder was my favourite, was surprised to see that there were quite a number of clams and pieces of fish in the soup, and the soup has a strong seafood taste if that is up your alley. For the other 2 dishes, they were good too but it felt better for sharing. Value 4/5: Good value for the prices, can get a tad expensive. Others: Parking available for customers if driving.
Amazing place if you love seafood! Beautiful surroundings and great atmosphere. Really friendly staff who did well considering how busy it was. Would definitely recommend booking before you go!Food: 5/5
With a name like Fisherman’s Wharf, you just know the seafood here is going to be good. What I didn’t expect was for this restaurant to be located on a literal wharf, which was really cool. We ordered three dishes to share between the two of us: the Seafood Chowder $23 for main, which includes fresh fish, scallops, mussels, shrimp and squid in a creamy soup with a side of toasted garlic bread, Out of the Net $39 for blue cod, which I chose pan-seared with herb butter and served with roasted potatoes and steamed vegetables, and the signature Seafood Sizzle Plate $38, which comprises fresh fish, scallops, mussels and squid, pan-seared on a sizzling hot plate served with coconut-infused jasmine rice and garden salad. All of the dishes were excellent. The seafood - and especially the fish - are extremely fresh, and they know how to bring out the natural flavours of these dishes in their cooking. My favourite dish is actually the Seafood Chowder for how hearty and comforting it is. The seafood on the Seafood Sizzling Plate was delicious, and the coconut-infused jasmine rice tastes like Nasi Lemak. We were extremely stuffed from this meal, but in a good way. Service was amazing as well. We were warmly welcomed, served our menus and waters immediately, and our food came very promptly after we ordered, even though the restaurant was really busy when we were there. PSA: Reservations are highly recommended, especially if you are visiting on a weekend, as they are very popular with families.
Very disappointed. All seafood are frozen and not fresh catch. The batter for the fried seafood are too thick. Fish and squid has no taste whilst the pawns looked like ready made bought from supermarket. Apart from the food, environment is good for a drink.Food: 2/5
Great little bistro to enjoy both the seaside scenery and all seafood fest, the place got great ambiance, friendly staff and amazing food. Everything we ordered tasted absolutely fresh, chowder was rich, creamy and perfectly seasoned, paua dumpling was creative and also perfectly cooked, battered fish was crispy on the out side, delicate and juicy on the inside, goes great with their tartar and the batter isn’t too oily or overpowering, sizzling platter is the highlight of the meal thou, so satisfying, the sauce is rich and flavorful, a perfect combination with the rice, nothing is over cooked. The only thing we weren’t too happy with was the shrimp cocktail, it wasn’t bad per se, just wasn’t what we expected, shrimp was fresh, soft and naturally sweet, but the salad is too overwhelming and average, and the presentation can use some work. The whole was also reasonably priced, absolutely love this place and will be back.
