Providing guidance and information on how to prevent fires from occurring and spreading and helping people be prepared if they do occur
The Otago Rural Fire Authority (the Authority) has the responsibility for undertaking effective fire control measure within the Otago Rural Fire District as defined by the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 and the Forest and Rural Fire Regulations 2005, including subsequent amendments.
The key functions of the Authority are to:
• Provide effective rural fire control measures for the Otago region; Promote and carry out measures to reduce the likelihood of rural fire occurrence; and,
• To mitigate the consequences of rural fire through readiness, response and recovery strategies.
