Story

Fifth Avenue Family Practice is one of the longest established practices in Tauranga, having served the community for almost 70 years.

We are situated close to the CBD of Tauranga and have easy free parking.

In addition to our clinic at 5th Ave, in January 2017 we opened a second clinic - Fifth Avenue on Tenth, situated at Suite 2 Promed House.

Our medical staff consists of seven associate General Practitioners, and five assistant doctors with an interest in special areas as well as general practice. We offer a wide range of services and are able to offer both routine appointments and also emergency or acute care.

We also have an on-site dispensing pharmacy at 5th Ave..

Fifth Avenue Family Practice is closed Sundays and public holidays.

The nurses here are great and it’s a beautiful practise - but our regular doctor Ella was away and the doctor covering her apparently doesn’t believe that teething babies need pamol, and wants us to bring our baby in for a checkup. She’s teething and in pain, just like every other sore teething baby, she doesn’t need to be dragged out in the cold to see a doctor who doesn’t believe a mother. If you’re a parent, don’t bother bringing your kids here, you won’t be believed when you’re asking for pamol. They only prescribe really small bottles too, not the normal sizes that other doctors prescribe.
Called today, Debbie was incredibly rude on the phone when she realised she couldn’t hear me properly she proceeded to growl me on the phone and tell me to call back. My recommendation is assume that people are at their most vulnerable when they call the doctors, speak kindly and softly. No need to growl or yell on the phone.
I’m generally really happy with appts at 5th ave. My doctor is always helpful. The front of house staff/receptionists are however not very warming. I was asked if I had a mask today which I don’t. I said I have a mask exemption, the receptionist then went to say that that doesn’t matter. They must have just changed their “rules” as I have always had my mask exempt accepted there. She was not accommodating, which therefore lead me to have an anxiety attack and the worst experience I have ever had at that practice to date with having to have a mask on. I have an exempt for a reason. And my mask exemption has just as much of a stand as a mask mandate which a mandate is not lawful. I hope you all can make a change for the better in regards to respect for peoples rights and conditions as this is not how patients should ever be treated.

Have tried working with my GP here for 4 years and unfortunately due to his personal beliefs have been unable to receive the treatment I’ve desperately needed and am more unwell than ever. It’s been an utterly degrading experience, a family friend has seen the same Dr recently and was appalled by the lack of care. Never once has taken blood pressure or weight, only interested in prescribing drugs rather than treating the problem, and creepy behaviour to vulnerable women. Would never return and am advising others to stay far far away. One of the reception staff has been a delight, but other than that the entire experience has been hell, a waste of life and money. Tried to voice concerns to the practice manager but unfortunately to no avail. Time to move on and move forward with less biased, more caring doctors at a different practice. Be wary of this practice.
Arrogant, rude and disrespectful front desk staff, and a service that always has to be chased up to get prescriptions correct. If only they were cheap to offset these issues, but they’re expensive too.
Been a patient here my entire life, nurses are more than happy to help same with the Receptionist. Our family Gp of over 25 years still cares for all of us to this day! highly recommended
Absolutely horrible and degrading experience. The doctor was incredibly rude and unable to provide any help to any of my issues. During a personal examination, the door was left slightly open and curtains undrawn. I was advised that I had been refereed to a specialist. After waiting for 2 months with no follow up, I inquired with the hospital to find that she actually hadn't referred me. I have placed 2 verbal complaints and one written on the 19th of June 2013 and still haven't heard back. Would not recommend to anyone.
I've been a patient for about two decades and have nearly always been happy with the service, professionalism, and comfortable and clean facilities. I appreciate the free Wi-Fi for patients, though it's very low bandwidth. The wee pharmacy off to the side of the pharmacy is convenient.
