Story

The Hobbit and his Missus look forward to hosting you at Fernlea.

Guests will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture, reconnect with the origin of their food supply and get a greater understanding of what it takes to go off grid.

For this,13.5 acres countrystay just north of Auckland, to be ready for guests in 2018 they are busy; clearing gorse, planting fruit trees, and building sheds, a glasshouse, and accommodation.

They aim to grow everything they eat, making bread, pasta and cheese, and keeping bees for honey and pollination, and chooks for eggs.

Fernlea is a place to -

RELAX, breathe deep and exhale.
LOVE the little things.
DREAM like a child.

"Nestled between the Kaipara Harbour and Pacific Ocean we found our own piece of paradise. It wasn't much to look at, gorse and mud everywhere, but armed with our dreams and determination we've made it more than a home.We would like to share our journey, welcome you to our extended community and hope your feet will be touching our soil one day, for a day visit or weekend getaway. we also run workshops to share what we have learnt. Our goal has been to make our small dreams and into BIG LIVING.small dreams = a home, community, family, sustainability.BIG LIVING = quality, comfort, luxury, generosity. we want to thrive, not just survive."

Needed some r&r while caring for my Mum. Could not have found a more perfect place. Jenni and Les were wonderful. Cabin just right. Calm, peaceful, cosy spot, great food, lovely kuni kuni pigs. Would definitely come back again and highly recommend Fernlea as a great place to just sit and enjoy the atmosphere, scenery, animals and countryside. Best breakfasts ever!!! Love their whole self sustaining attitude.
