Nice busy little place, mince and cheese pies at $9.50 we thought was expensive but came with salad and a drizzle of dressing which my son was not happy about with the dressing over his pie in places. Coffee was nuclear hot which was just as well as there was a long pause between coffee and food and I prefer the two together when eating a dessert
Stopped here for lunch on the way between Hamilton and New Plymouth. Very busy at the time it was school holidays. Great selection of food and beverages, either from the counter or the blackboard menu. They also have gifts and other food items for sale too. A small bridge takes you over to a lovely playground too. Great for families. Nice clean toilets too x3. Plenty of parking, too. Would definitely recommend making it a place to stop at on a road trip if it's around food time!

Visited 3 Nov, 2022. As previous service, service delivery and atmosphere was mediocre at best. Busy? Yes, with most or all seats taken. But no welcome; no smiles, just sullen robotic staff. Are the staff happy with their work? Possibly not. Food: 2 X very average toasted cheese sandwiches. Each about 75 to 90mm square; 1 cabinet fruit drink and a smooth takeaway coffee. Price:$41.00!!! The price is exorbitant for these items. I feel shame when travellers are expected to pay this 'clip-joint' pricing for average food served by almost glum staff. We will bypass the Fat Pigeon Cafe in future, as will a family we talked with just last evening.
This Cafe is absolutely fantastic. Either breakfast lunch or dinner, the food is amazing. There is so many choices and the food window inside looks like a royal feast. Eat outside and there is a great park for kids to play off there energy before getting back in the car. We travel from Taumarunui just to eat some wonderfully amazing awesome looking dishes, and the coffee is great too. The staff that cater to your every need are beautifully happy, smiles and laughter so friendly. If you haven't been PLEASE go and experience this awesome Cafe in Piopio.
Lovely food and atmosphere. Great service and coffee too. Everything arrived quickly despite the cafe being packed and the queue to the door. Don't be put off by the popularity, they handle the large numbers easily and there's good reasons this place is so popular with - it's greatFood: 5/5

This is a great cafe for a stop when travelling. It's next to a stream, reserve and playground so it's perfect if you have a dog or young kids like us. The food is yummy, the place is clean and had a great vibe. Took off one star because the service could be friendlier - we last visited in the busy Christmas period so I think the staff were under a bit of pressure. Highly recommended
Great stop off point when heading north! Love this cafe, doesn’t matter what time of the day you call in, the cabinet is always full. Great coffee and the toasted Sammy’s are delicious!
Have previously not visited as the carpark has been full. Quite busy with a great range of cabinet food. Great outside seating both open and covered. There were speakers all around but no music being played. Will certainly return.Food: 5/5
