A fine Art Gallery set in one of the oldest settler homes of Golden Bay up in the beautiful farmland of East Takaka Road - an inspirational environment beside Gorge Creek and under the Marble Mountain
The ‘Trees' exhibition showcases 50 significant NZ artists many of whom are international exhibitors with work held in private and public collections worldwide. The response to the theme is diverse; both literal and symbolic, inspired by both trees and wood. The three month duration allows maximum exposure of this exceptional range and quality of work.
Fairholme is a historic building that emerged from the timber milling industry of colonial times. Built in 1868 of native woods and surrounded by heritage trees, it is a testament to the history and development of the region and fitting for a show themed ‘Trees’. Hosted within the gallery rooms as well as the garden, it will stimulate thought provoking responses from the wider viewing community including schools and other groups.
The population of Golden Bay, usually 5000, swells to 25,000 over the busy season. The show will add a new dimension for visitors to the Bay who will encounter it as a 'total experience' of art, history and gardens in a unique rural environment back-dropped by two national parks.
Normally open only 5 days a week, from Boxing Day 'Trees' will be open 7 days a week until closing in early February.
