Why Yoga
Yoga has the power to transform our lives on all levels.
Originated from India thousands of years ago and incorporated into the modern western lifestyle there is so much to gain from this amazing practice. Yoga works on your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
On a physical level regular Yoga practise increases flexibility, strength and body awareness, decreases aches and pains. Yoga helps you to relax and achieve better sleep with many of my clients reporting that they have the best night sleep on the day they’ve practised Yoga. It cleanses your body and mind through gentle detoxification, opening up all pathways for better energy flow. Practising Yoga will significantly reduce your stress levels.
Yoga is achievable and beneficial at any age or fitness levels, whether you’re big or small, flexible or inflexible, male or female, old or young, overweight or skinny, healthy or unwell, new to Yoga or an old timer!
My Yoga background:
Since my early twenties I had a strong interest in Yoga and visited many different Yoga classes, wherever I was living I gave Yoga a go. That went on for almost twenty years, with sometimes more and sometimes less Yoga in my life.
Approaching my forties I had the strong urge to train as a Yoga teacher to learn more about the ancient science of Yoga for myself. From the very first moment I loved the training, it felt like a home coming and finally following my heart’s calling!
I trained with Amanda Reid, director of Samadhi Family Yoga and am trained in Yoga for pregnancy, infants through to adolescents and Yoga for adults and athletes.
In 2013 I studied applied anatomy and physiology with Simon Borg-Oliver from Yoga Synergy in Sydney, which has increased my knowledge of Yoga postures, movements, bodywork, breathing and diet immensely.
I’m going to regular Yoga classes with other great Yoga teachers and continue to learn, with various workshops, Yoga conferences, online studies, etc. to make sure that I’m the best teacher I can be.
My Yoga style/style of Yoga:
It is very important to me that you feel better after the Yoga session than before! Therefore I encourage everyone to work at her/his level and to always make sure that your body and mind feels okay with what’s happening.
My style is based on Satyananda Yoga and Vinyasa flow Yoga, incorporating breath work (pranayama) and the connection between body, mind and breath.
After a gentle warm up sequence we dive deeper into poses with slow to faster flowing Vinyasa Yoga and finish the physical part off with some deeper stretching poses. Each session then finishes with a guided relaxation of at least 10 minutes. My favourite is a short Yoga Nidra, which means psychic sleep, for very deep and thorough relaxation.
NUTRITION
If you're in need of decent, honest and up to date nutritional advice I offer private nutritional consultations that are professional and affordable. I'll visit you in the comfort of your own home at a time that suits you.
My approach is based on common sense, life experience and scientific research. It is an approach that is an achievable way of living for today’s busy individuals and families. I have a high degree of empathy and will work with you in a compassionate and non judgemental way.
I endeavour to work with each person on a very individual basis. As much as possible I want to get to know your lifestyle, all relevant aspects of your health and many more important things that influence the way you eat and live.
I’m not advocating “one diet for all” approach, but take in account where you are on your journey and your life story, your medical situation and what your goals are. Together we will work out a program that fits into your lifestyle and suits your personality. This way we will be able to connect all the puzzle pieces of your life to create a healthier version of yourself. As my consultations and my advice has to work for you I will take into account your personal situation and your preferences and dislikes about food. It does not matter if you’re vegetarian or an omnivore you will walk away with advice how to stay healthy and vibrant and in tune with your personal values and likes.
