This school is pretty good; it mostly teaches you the things you need to know. The people there are overall nice, of course, you get a few exceptions. Communication is unclear at times, and there have been many occasions where the notices have been vague or haven't contained sufficient information, causing confusion.nThe toilets are nothing to boast about, because there aren't many, and some are in very poor condition. The one in the hall, especially, is subpar. Being able to go to the bathroom is something everyone should be able to do freely, and that means having more bathrooms. While I love the new bathrooms in the white house, we aren't allowed to go to them during morning tea/lunch as it is not in the lower school area.nThere aren't many places to sit during lunch, and now that I think about it, there isn't much to do at all during lunch. It would be nice if the school invested in at least a few things to keep the students entertained.nRainy morning teas and lunchtimes are also not very well planned out, as the bell system is a bit confusing. When even the teachers don't know if it's a rainy lunch, you can tell that something needs fixing.nI feel like the school rules are also catered to the younger students. Some are necessary. Some are fair. A few are questionable, and a couple are downright silly. While I appreciate that there needs to be order and respect within a school, there's definitely a fine line between supportive guiding and controlling, and some of these rules cross the line in my opinion.nFor example, many of the older students have their driver's licenses and may even be driving themselves to school. Yet, for cultural fiesta, you had to have a family member with you, or you wouldn't be able to attend. I find this ironic, considering we will soon be adults and need to become independent individuals, which is hard to achieve in this kind of environment.nI have also noticed a recent influx of AI-generated posters around the school. These posters have the instantly identifiable over-cluttered look, and on closer inspection, you can see the design flaws like weird finger angles on hands. I just don't understand what's so hard about finding a good poster from the multitude of decent designs that already exist on the internet. Instead, we have an ironic situation where AI posters are all around the school while students are actively dissuaded from using AI.nAnyways enough of the negatives, let's finish on a good note.nThere are a few teachers who have been exceptional and have really made me want to learn more. Since the school is a smaller school, you aren't just a number; you can actually form relationships with teachers and be noticed. The best teacher is the one who inspires you to learn outside of school.nElim's Christian character really makes me feel welcome and safe at the school. I'm not going to pretend that everyone at the school is perfect, but the overall environment is amiable.nIn 2025, there was only one fountain that the seniors could access, made of some plastic piping, which had perpetual green mould growing at the bottom. Luckily, the school finally decided to upgrade it by changing it to a newer water fountain. This is a really good step in the right direction.nOverall, the school is good, even though it has a few flaws, but in a few years, it won’t be my problem anymore. I’m writing this review in hope that the school keeps improving for future students.
I am a new student first/second day and felt disappointed by the lack of welcome and no school tour. I struggled to find my classes. There are no lockers, so I have to carry heavy books every day, which has caused shoulder pain. The toilets are very dirty and can’t use it alot.
An amazing school! The staff are fantastic, my kids are thriving academically. The school is its own little village, with a warm, welcoming community of families passionate about their children’s holistic development and faith. With a culture of reflection and improvement, Elim Mt Albert just keeps getting better.
My daughter joined school for the first time in Year 13. The small classes were very helpful. The teachers were attentive, excellent and engaged. Pastoral care was top notch and the school provided a great social environment. Leadership, sports and cultural opportunities were easily accessible in a welcoming supportive environment. My daughter got excellent NCEA Level 3 grades.
