Story

I beleive we are very lucky to have this historic treasure here in Picton that is currently registered as the 9th oldest ship in the world, older than the cutty sark and star of india...(just not as well known)! The Edwin Fox is also the last remaining convict ship that took convicts to Australia, the last surviving ship of The Dunbar Shipping Fleet, once the largest shipping fleet in the world and The Edwin Fox is also registered by The World Ships Trust as the oldest merchant ship in The world!!! It has been around the world a reported 34 times and has played a very important and versatile role in history...convicts, soldiers to the Crimean war, emmigrants to NZ, Chinese to Cuba to work the Cane Fields, Tea and Beer routes between India and London, opium to San Francisco, its seen births, deaths, storms and disease!!
The Story of the saving of The Edwin Fox is amazing in itself being brought for a shilling by Mr Norman Brayshaw...saving it from a watery grave....come and read the tales for yourself.....

Had no idea this was here. You can actually walk on the ship and see what things were like when it was in use. A lot of hard work has gone into this, amazing:
Very interesting. I'm not into boats but I spent almost 2 hours watching the movie and reading all the notes on exhibits then going through the ship.
The ship itself is fantastic with plenty of hands on exhibits that give a real sense of what life on board would have been like.
Took our granddaughter for a look, she enjoyed it very much for a 9 year old and took a lot of photos.
Great place, amazing museum and fantastic ship!
Such an amazing experience, great work done by the community to preserve the oldest ship "alive" who carried convicts in the 19th century. Allow one hour to cover both the ships itseld and the exhibition within the museum shop.
Really loved this museum. A must if in Picton. The history of the ship is fascinating and seeing the size of it when walking through is incredible. Lovely staff and very central location. My highest recommendation for the town.
I learnt alot at the museum it was very cool.
