About New Zealand Bird Rescue Charitable Trust Story We are a passionate group of supporters who generously give up their time to rescue, rehabilitate and release orphaned, sick and injured birds. Our centres accept and care for all New Zealand birds whether they are native, non-native or pet. We assist thousands of birds each year, many being the victims of cat attacks, road accidents, pollution (such as fishing line and nylon entanglements and botulism) or human cruelty. We have been extremely lucky to have been bequeathed to us our Green Bay property by Jocelyn Grattan. Our vision is to build a Bird Rescue Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre at Avonleigh Road and develop it into a world-class facility. Bird Rescue was originally formed in 1984 by foundation members Pam, Hilary, Lyn, Berend and Linda. With the bequest of the Avonleigh property by Jocelyn Grattan the members formed the New Zealand Bird Rescue Charitable Trust so that they can further continue the work they have been doing for nearly 30 years."BirdCare Aotearoa provides care and rehabilitation for sick, injured, and orphaned wild birds.We have recently been facing unprecedented admission numbers, stretching our wildlife hospital to its capacity. From the now until 28th February 2023, we will only be open to admit new patients from 11am to 3pm. For birds needing help immediately please take them to your local veterinary clinic.
