About:
About Rowley Resource Centre 89 Rowley Avenue, Hoon Hay, Christchurch Story The Rowley Resource Centre has been nestled in the Rowley Ave - Hoon Hay community for nearly 25 years. We have operated as a part-time community-based centre that focuses on enabling community development and growth through the provision of services, facilities, courses and community-led groups for the improvement of lives in the community. Identified as a Key Local Project the Christchurch City Council kindly bestowed monies from their project funds for the Rowley Resource Centre Incorporated Society to purchase our own building. So we are now a privileged community group with the responsibility and of owning our own premises in the heart of the Rowley community. We provide a range of services from supporting families through the use of a community worker to assist with resourcing and supporting, through to the free use of phones, computers & internet access, photocopiers and scanners. We are a centre where you can just come in and read the paper, have a chat and grab yourself a cup of tea or coffee and meet others. We have a great group of volunteers who support us in a range of ways, from the work in the garden or kitchen through to the volunteer tutors. We have a range of course available and provide cheap vegetables through the Vege Co-op that is a volunteer community initiative established throughout Christchurch. The Rowley Resource Centre is an Incorporated Society and has an Executive Committee called a Board who employ three permanent part-time staff members - a manager, a community development worker and a financial administrator. The aims of the centre are to: • To provide community education, learning programmes and educational resources focussed on community participation. • Identify and initiate responses to community needs, local issues and local community development initiatives • Provide a welcoming safe, secure and accessible venue with appropriately trained support people. • Continually develop ways of promoting and enhancing a sense of community • To work towards the health, happiness, self-reliance, self-confidence, dignity and independence of those in the local community foster and promote acceptance of all culture in the community.
