About A fantastic little place full of cool, vintage, retro old stuff that still works! Open every Sunday from 12-4 pm. Steam once a month and a working forge. Story The Dunedin Gasworks opened in 1863 and closed in 1987. The museum is a category 1 heritage site which features an engine room and fitting shop with five steam engines, from the 1860s and a working 1868 beam engine on loan from Toitu Otago Settlers Museum. The other buildings on site, are a working forge a famous tilted chimney (1880s) and a boiler room which features Edwardian architecture. The museum is used for functions, hosting meetings, classes, and workshops. Opening hours are Sundays 12-4pm, for guided tours, steam once a month, annual local community events and fun filled open days.
