About The Motu Challenge is the North Island's premier multisport race. A tough course for everyday people to conquer. Story 2014 marks the 21st anniversary of this great event! Opotiki's Motu Challenge is one of the country's premier multisport races, with over NZ$30,000 worth of prizes. The Motu Challenge has four stages: 65km mountain bike, 17km run, 52km road cycle, and multisport stage with a 27km kayak, 8km road cycle and 3km run to the finish. The Motu 160 runs alongside the Motu Challenge and includes a 65km mountain bike ride and a 90km road bike ride.
