About Wellington's Coolest Wee alternative/gay bar Story Ivy Bar - Wellington's Coolest Wee alternative/gay bar 63 Cuba St (Lower Cuba St, Opposite Burger King) Located under Cuba St in the old basement of the former James Smith Department store, the Ivy is Wellington's best kept secret. Designed by Roger Walker, Ivy is adorned with beautiful fabrics, walls of solid old brick, and bottles of booze as far as the eye can see - it is a haven away from the madness of the world above. Expect delicious cocktails, big ol' jugs of beer, cozy nooks and crannies and of course a wonderful assortment of amazing people. It's all a little bit fancy and a whole lot of fun.
