About High Quality Early Childhood Education Story Onslow kindergarten is nestled in a back section amongst established trees which provide a private and inviting natural setting . Children are encouraged to work collaboratively to care for their environment. Children gain rich and rewarding experiences at Onslow Kindergarten. We provide an environment where children explore, are challenged and have a sense of wonderment of the world. The Education Review Office report for Onslow Kindergarten in 2011 commented that: “Children are settled and engaged in their play throughout the kindergarten and they demonstrate positive relationships and inclusive values . Teachers effectively promote literacy learning for children and support their language development. They recognise childrens’ wide ranging interests through lively narrative and recounts of children’s participation in the programme.” There are several things you can do to help your child prepare for kindergarten. Usually there will be a period of several weeks from when you get notified of a place at kindergarten and when your child starts. During this time, we suggest you: 1. Visit the kindergarten and spend time familiarizing your child with the environment, teachers and children (ring ahead to make sure there are no special events planned for that day). 2.Point out the kindergarten when you drive past and talk to them about activities they might do and which friends are there. 3.Talk about the teachers by name. Prior to, or on your child’s first day talk to the teachers and work out a settling plan. Please be prepared to stay on your child’s first day to help them settle and support their smooth transition into Onslow Kindergarten. Each child is different so they will need differing levels of support or time to settle independently into a new environment.
