First established in 1987, ngā Kaumatua o Ngai Tamarāwaho created Huria Trust (formerly Huria Management Trust) to umbrella and strengthen tribal activities, which at that time were centred around the rebuilding of our wharenui ‘Tamatea Pokaiwhenua”.

In May 2000, Huria Trust became an Incorporated Society, and was approved charitable status in that same year.
