About
Bracken Hill is a 45 acre equine property located in Mid Canterbury that specialises
in breaking-in sporthorses and thoroughbreds, schooling, breeding and agistment. 
The property and business is owned and operated by Jeff and Katie Hill.

Story
Jeff has been involved with horses from a young age and grew up training and 
competing eventers to a high level, having been selected on many regional and 
National squads and teams over the years. Jeff’s family is also heavily involved in 
the harness racing industry and has breed and campaigned many successful and 
well known horses. Outside of his Eventing career Jeff has also worked in a number
of Warmblood Studs in NZ and Australia. He has gained substantial experience and 
expertise working with stallions and broodmares, handling and preparing 
young-stock; and breaking-in, training and competing sport horses and 
Thoroughbreds.

Jeff has been breaking-in horses for 10 years and developed this into a full time 
business in Southland. In August 2011 Jeff and Katie purchased an existing 
agistment and breeding property in Canterbury. Combining the two businesses has 
produced Bracken Hill.

At Bracken Hill the focus is on offering owners and breeders the highest quality 
standard of care to ensure that all horses have the opportunity to reach their 
potential. Bracken Hill carefully monitors it’s stocking rates to ensure that each 
horse can be managed on an individual basis with a tailored plan for each horses 
needs.
