Story Connections Paihia offers school holiday workshops and one to one sessions in emotion regulation. Teaching children how their brains work makes them better equipped to "use their brains" during times of stress. Various mindfulness techniques help children to engage the region of the brain involved in higher cognitive functions such as planning, decision making and impulse control. Making them better equiped to respond thoughtfully to challenging situations. The tools taught also help to develop concentration, self esteem, optimism, gratitude and empathy all of which have proven positive neurological effects.
