Franz Josef, Fox Glacier, Okarito, Whataroa Story We are a group of 90 businesses who work together to let the world know about remote Glacier Country, New Zealand. Glacier Country is dominated by two 12-14km long glaciers, the Fox and Franz Josef, that descend from the high peaks of the Southern Alps down through dense rain forest. Other attractions include the famous Lake Matheson, Lake Mapourika, and Okarito Lagoon.
