The iconic Duncan Pavilion is magnificently located right on the Castlecliff beach front in historical Whanganui.

In the 1960's the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce started a move to establish a community facility at Castlecliff beach. The Beach Society fundraised for the building and this was added to by a major financial contribution from the William McAlpine Duncan Trust.
The Pavilion, designed by architect Eddie Belchambers, was opened in 1967. Later renovations were carried out by Progress Castlecliff with voluntary labour from members and financial assistance from Powerco Wanganui Trust.
The Pavilion is now vested in  Wanganui District Council and administered by Progress Castlecliff Inc whose time and energy keep this beautiful icon available for the Wanganui community to use.
