About Maple Glen is a 45 acre private garden in southern New Zealand. Story Maple Glen is our private garden here in Southland, New Zealand. Started by Muriel Davison in a curving valley in the early 1970's it has continued to grow and now occupies around 42 acres of our farm. The garden features mass plantings of cold hardy perennials, Snowdrops, Daffodils, Trillium, Bluebells, Colchicum, Astilbes, Higo Iris and Inshriach Hybrid Primulas along with many hundreds of Rhododendrons and Mollis Azaleas. Many large ponds have been dug and the bird life is another feature of the garden. There is also a nascent arboretum. Maple Glen is open to the public 9am-5pm every day, year round. Entry by donation.
