About 'To promote the teaching and development of various forms of arts and handicrafts or other cultural activities, in Otane and the surrounding districts'. Story History The old Otane School was opened in 1900 and for many years served the population of the area before a new building was erected across the road in the 1960's. By 1970 the old school was to be demolished but a group of far sighted residents saw an opportunity to create a centre for the development of various arts and crafts. A society was formed and the building was vested to the District Council who leased it to the society. The centre was officially opened on 1st September 1970.
