About:
About Art Studio/Gallery Story As you head for a coffee at Geraldine’s Verde cafe, a glimpse through the open door of Susan Badcock Studio reveals a white-washed room intersected with the delicately hand-coloured photographs of talented photographer, Susan Badcock, accompanied by the intense colour and inspiring paintings of acclaimed artist and father to Susan, John Badcock. The newly opened studio and gallery at the rear of the Old Post Office Building on Talbot Street is the initiative of Susan Badcock. Owner and Director of the business, Susan not only exhibits, but also works from here. When the space became available, Susan leapt at the opportunity to work from an inspirational setting such as this – high Parisian-style windows flood the studio with natural light, showcasing Susan’s photography and her father’s paintings. The raw industrial setting lends a stylish vibe to the studio, creating a refreshing and congenial space for visitors to view work and seek inspiration. A graduate of the Dunedin School of Art, Susan’s resume is impressive. She has worked as assistant to esteemed Australian photographer, Anne Ferran, managed an Artist Residency Programme, and tutored at the Design and Arts College in Christchurch. Susan’s work has also appeared in exhibitions across the country, including group exhibition, Zero, where she featured alongside Ferran and renowned New Zealand photographers, Anne Noble and Margaret Dawson. Susan is currently exhibiting a selection of her fine art photography, John Badcock’s paintings and monotypes by Sharon Whittaker. It is a dynamic exhibition that is constantly evolving as new works are introduced. "Susan Badcock Gallery was established in 2014 and exhibits work by her grandfather Douglas Badcock, father John Badcock and Susan herself and more recently other New Zealand artists in the gallery and online.Gallery founder and director Susan Badcock has up until recently focussed on the artistic influence which has followed the family for the past four generations.
