About We are a branch of NZ Hemp Brokers ltd set up to harvest process and decordicate your hemp crop. Story Hemp for the best food and other products (from Old English hænep) is the name of the soft, durable fibre that is cultivated from plants of the Cannabis Sativa L. genus, cultivated for commercial use and containing less than 0.3% THC In modern times, hemp has been used for industrial purposes including paper, textiles, biodegradable plastics, construction, health food, fuel, and medical purposes with modest commercial success. In the past three years, commercial success of hemp food products has grown considerably. Hemp is one of the fastest growing biomasses, producing up to 25 tonnes of dry matter per hectare per year, and one of the earliest domesticated plants known to man. For a crop, hemp is very environmentally friendly, as it requires few pesticides and no herbicides. Industrial hemp is produced in many countries around the world. Major producers include Canada, France, China and now New Zealand. In 1937, Popular Science magazine listed over 25,000 potential uses for the hemp plant. Modern technology has even increased its uses, from products as diverse as highly nutritious foods to building materials, plastics, cosmetics, fuels & textiles. Today's challenge is for processing technology to catch up to the farmers' ability to grow the crop. Dormant for 60 years, the hemp industry is only now beginning to creatively explore better ways of harvesting and processing the crop.
