About Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai is a community centre that serves as a place of wellbeing for the people of Helensville and the surrounding South Kaipara area. Story With its headquarters at Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai, this long-term project connects local farmers, growers, food producers, cooks and everyday consumers in a win-win way. Food production, distribution, preparation and consumption will all be assisted, enabled and promoted by the Food Revolution to a wide market of consumers in a variety of ways. While it is vital to our physical health, we believe food can also provide our community with economic, educational and cultural sustenance. Regarded as Auckland’s ‘food basket’, the South Kaipara region is ripe for a revolution in the economic realisation of how valuable our land, our resources and our people are to wider Auckland and New Zealand as a whole. From a planned monthly ‘Harvest Market’, to commercial grade kitchen provision, certification for artisan producers to a professional teaching kitchen to regular community lunches and social gastronomic evenings…the South Kaipara Food Revolution has something for everyone.
