Story

Dynamite Music specialise in group piano lessons and currently teach 130 students (aged 7-12) in schools and homes around the Eastern and Southern suburbs of Wellington.
We teach beginners to read and play music, helping them become independent learners with their own musical tastes.

Our group lessons are successful because we capture the imagination of students.
Kids will only learn music if it's as 'cool' as their video games, the TV and school-yard soccer.
Our lessons are based on Pirates, Secret-Agents, Star Wars, Nursery Rhymes, The Circus, Movie themes, Classical pieces, and songs from the radio.

Lessons are carefully graded and after a 5-10 week introductory phase, students are free to choose their own journey through our teaching material.
We encourage independence and give students all the tools they need to play a piece on their own.
From the very beginning students learn to read music.
We teach short and punchy pieces that let students feel like they have moved mountains with their weekly successes.

For the students who work with us in schools, we send home weekly updates on the piece currently being worked on (and a reasonable practice goal for the week).
At the end of every term, we write a report on progress.

Our group lessons are $12/week and are much more cost effective than private lessons.
(A one-on-one private lesson is equivalent to 3 group lessons in our program)
We offer parents a low cost way to see if their child has a musical interest.

We currently work at Newtown, Seatoun, Lyall Bay and St Anthony's primary schools, and also run a community project in Berhampore.
We're actively seeking to expand into new schools - please get in touch if you'd like to discuss our service further.

We also run a mobile afternoon service, and travel from home to home in the Eastern Suburbs.
We will have limited availability for new afternoon students.
