It’s a spacious car part next to a bowling club, but I meant to park somewhere close to the aviary, which there is another one closer.
Nice place to go if you have time to find your own way around. Maps aren't located in easy to find places. Google maps doesn't have great details. Locals know where things are but when visiting its hard to find toilets and café.
On the lawn on the southeast side of Dunedin Botanic Garden Eastern Carpark stands a ginkgo sapling grown from a seed of a tree damaged by the atomic bomb. On August 6, 1945, the U.S. military dropped an atomic bomb on the center of Hiroshima, Japan then known as the Empire of Japan. The tree was grown from a ginkgo seed that was damaged by the atomic bomb at Tsuruhane Shrine 5-11 Futaba-no-Sato 2-chome, Higashi-ku, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, located 1,810 meters from the hypocenter. In 2017, Dunedin Botanic Gardens cultivated seeds donated by Green Legacy Hiroshima and planted the saplings in two locations in Dunedin: this location and behind the flower bed west of the bus stop in Market Reserve in the city's south. An information board is available at Market Reserve.
